This affects us all

Those are the sources repeating this BS with no support beyond an out of context quote. Seymour Hersh is either a Russian asset or a useful idiot, and he seems to be the one who got all of you riled up, repeated by the usual channels.

It’s going to be hilarious when this turns out to be funded by the party at actual war with Russia. Or some other bizarre group with some strange beef.
Nobody has me “all riled up” except dipshit Joe himself. His words came true. Why you are spinning around all dizzy looking for some other explanation is bizarre.

You know what is funny? The one book was made into a movie and was rated PG-13 so anybody could go and see it,
Less government intervention and free choices in a discussion of books and schools paid for by taxpayers is a losing argument.

To say that any book is banned is obfuscation. They can be purchased by any parent that wants to and given to their child.

Still no answer on why movie theaters get away with restricting content.

Correct. I’m not talking about junior high and up…. just keep them out of elementary schools for this little snowflake please….
The article you posted said the books were pulled from ALL county schools. I have no issue with these books not being in elementary schools but a big issue with them being pulled from high schools.

The one book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is not even a book whose main focus is sex.
Those were just examples… I’m not wasting my time researching all of the sexually inappropriate books that have been found in elementary school libraries…. It’s a fact that this happens whether you believe it or not.

Ok, fair enough. My point was about elementary schools.
Again, I just did a quick search and linked the first article. I just didn’t want to spend much time digging.

Where is the eye roll emoji when I need it?

I realize this is is hard, but Nordstream pipelines have been part of a major diplomatic back and forth for years. What he almost certainly meant is the US will pressure and incentivize allies to stop using it, which works better than doing something that can be repaired in a year.

The Trump Admin was part of blocking NS2 btw.

Blame that on the school district that probably thought that covering their behind was the best move.

LOL

But not at all what he ACTUALLY said

I don't think we may be that far apart. The article indicated that these books were found in 20 schools in the district. There are 17 high schools in the district so I doubt these books were in elementary schools.

Agreed….
I was wondering why you were challenging me on this topic because your posting history suggests we would be on the same page about this…. It turns out that the article I posted (admittedly without reading to see if it actually backed my point, which is my bad) didn’t portray my actual opinion of the topic. I’ll try not to be lazy next time I post an article that is supposed to clearly support my opinion.

That is a tough question. Perhaps because they are a private business and not the government. They can show what the choose, and they put a Rating on each movie as a "suggestion".

just like at the movie theater I can buy any book I want and hand it to a minor. I can go to my local public library, check it out and hand to a minor. Thats not banning and that is freedom of choice.

When it’s made available to a minor for free with unrestricted access that’s not freedom of choice. We restrict what minors are exposed to and can do in a myriad of ways. People used to think that was a good thing. It’s hyperbole to say DeSantis is banning books when they can be readily obtained in other manners.

The state of book banning in Florida linked below. Liberals enclaves going over the top to politicize what used to be considered common sense. Just like calling it banning is politicizing it. But DeSantis is trying to tweak the law to limit the frivolous attempts. My governor is really good…lots of Dems like him.

Liberalism is a disease where having a cause is more important than the cause itself. No matter how crazy it is. So if a fellow liberal has one you really can’t easily say no to it. Another symptom is that they dont want to run out of causes. And since their “solutions” address symptoms and not cause they never will run out of them. Some of the causes put out by liberals lately would have made they blush just 5 years ago.

Fascist Ron didn't give school districts choice, that is the point. He cleared the State Board of Education and appointed all fascist followers. The Principals and librarians were put in fear of their careers.

You haven't read the Florida legislative news. The session just ended and the Republican super majority didn't enact RDS proposals. Headline from Tallahassee is Anti-Woke is dead. His career is over after this term ends.

Not only a fascist but not that smart for Ivy League graduate. He has had his Board of Education and the UF remove Sociology as a requirement for the social sciences. Why? Pin heads believe that sociology is the same as socialism. (almost spelled the same)The reputation of UF is dropping fast. RDS also forced UF to give his incompetent Surgeon General a faculty position. Horrible Governor, worried about the anti-woke agenda to defeat Trump in the Primaries, instead of fixing real problems like absence of Homeowner insurance.

Yowza. Youre rationalizing providing these materials in public schools where they’re accessible to every child by saying music and pornography are available somewhere else? Thats a nuance that shouldn’t be lost on anyone!

i always ask people that think providing these materials without restriction and free of charge is OK but why do they never complain about movie access in theaters being restricted?
Remember, Jeff is a Reagan Republican who has exactly zero kids. He doesn’t give a hoot and has no skin in the game or the future of America.

Where do you libs draw the line for appropriate sexual materials in schools? Oh, that’s right….. you have no lines. For anything. Not sexual materials in school, not crime (you let everyone go freely after a token arrest), not immigration (another free-for-all), not indoctrination of racism, not on the climate, not on tyrannical Covid lockdowns and vaxxes. Nothing. Your opinions are meaningless.

I can assure you that will find much more fault with populist nationalism and its impact on your life in America than you did with Reaganism.

Any which way, the entitlement crisis coming down the pipe will hopefully wake everyone up from that view. It will have some other impacts, including on things I place more value upon.

If he got what he wanted he wouldn’t be trying to tweak the legislation…successful or not. Nuances are lost on liberals…sometimes intentionally.

Seems to me that the populist side is decisively the dems….

“The term populism not only trivialises attacks on democracy, but also divides and thus weakens democracy. It is the main purpose of the populism accusation to discredit the other side; devalue it as non-scientific, susceptible to simple messages, undemocratic or somehow distasteful.”

Seems like a spot-on description of the dems…

Wow….please don’t ever call anyone else a conspiracy theorist….

You are so deep in delusional thoughts on almost everything I actually feel bad for you.

In case that didn’t read clearly, my money is on Ukraine (the party at war with Russia).

Huh? This is a pretty fair definition. You express lots of populist sentiment but you aren’t terribly ideologically consistent so I’m not sure it’s the right description for you. Populism isn’t typically associated with cutting edge technological advancement and more than not it would oppose the same.

I’m not anything other than an independent thinker. Ideas get passed by. Much of the western world is telling the Kerry’s of the world to go to hell. Much of the western world is done with too much government control. Covid policies woke up a lot of people. The “great reset” desired by Kerry and those with even greater riches is getting rebuked. That isn’t “populism”. It’s a necessary shift in politics.

It wasn’t a criticism. But typically and historically, those who want much less regulation and local control tend to be, say, extremely pro-free trade.

There’s probably a coherent worldview. Suspicion of government and outsiders (trade/immigration). Maybe legacy Tea Party. I was a big fan of the Tea Party but am just not all that hostile about politics like the core of that movement.

One of the big issues in our politics is a lot of rich people seem to have forgotten why they are rich. Maybe they can turn the Dem Party into a vehicle for the free market, I remain skeptical. But by leaving the GOP, they are ending with two parties that IMHO lack a commitment to the economic dynamism that makes America great.
