Recruiting news Recruiting Roundup: Illinois gameday visits on tap

Good group of visitors.

A couple of currently committed 2024 recruits too. I'll report on those Saturday if they show up. Two three-stars who haven't really been mentioned in connection with Illinois until now.

This story lists the top kids, but there are also a lot of others in the 2025 thru 2027 classes coming.

  • Recorded 46 of 54 holes at or below par, highlighted by 14 birdies, and was one of only three competitors to finish under par for the event with a three-round total of 211 (-5)

WBB Non-conference schedule announced

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The second non-conference schedule of the Shauna Green era at Illinois has been announced and features seven home games for the Fighting Illini. In addition to the previously announced game against Notre Dame, the Illinois women's basketball squad will head to the West Palm Beach Classic while playing one true road game at Marquette.

The Fighting Illini will host Truman State for an exhibition on Monday, Oct. 30, an event that will be open to the public and offer a first look of this season's squad. Illinois will also play its season opener inside State Farm Center as Morehead State visits on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

On Nov. 11, the Illini will head north for a road game at Marquette in Milwaukee. Illinois will return home for a midweek against Saint Peter's on Nov. 15 before hitting the road for the Citi Shamrock Classic against Notre Dame in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 18.

From there, Illinois' next four non-conference games are at home, with Canisius (Nov. 26), Central Connecticut State (Nov. 29), Northern Kentucky (Dec. 6), and Missouri (Dec. 17) coming to town.

Regular-season non-conference play will wrap up from Dec. 20-21 in Florida, as the Orange and Blue compete in the West Palm Beach Classic. A separate announcement will be made when the opponents and schedule for the event are finalized.

Illinois' full Big Ten schedule will be released at a later date. Home and road matchups for the 18-game schedule were announced in June.

  • Big Ten Home Games: Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Rutgers, Wisconsin
  • Big Ten Away Games: Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue
Season tickets for the 2023-24 Illinois women's basketball season are on sale now with new seating options available.

Following a 2022-23 season that saw the Illini make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years and secure their most wins (22) in a single campaign since 1999-2000, there's no better time to support Illinois and the new #OneWay Forward campaign.

In Year 1 under Shauna Green, Illinois women's basketball delivered one of the largest one-year turnarounds across the NCAA. Green led the squad to a 22-10 overall record after taking over a program that had gone 7-20 the season prior.

The Illini were ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign. In the stands, Illinois secured the fifth-best single-season home attendance in program history during the 2022-23 campaign, and Green became the first head coach to bring in 50,000+ fans during her first season at the helm.

The 2022-23 regular season saw Illinois post a 10-1 record in non-conference play, marking just the third time in program history the Illini registered double-digit regular-season out-of-conference victories in a single campaign.

Volleyball Fighting Illini Take Down Braves on Tuesday

PEORIA, Ill. – A four-set match favored the Fighting Illini as Illinois volleyball topped Bradley at the Renaissance Center on Tuesday night.

The Fighting Illini improved to 5-3 with the win on Tuesday night. The Braves dropped to 7-3 on the year.

The Orange and Blue amassed 48 kills while posting a .228 hitting percentage for the match. Defensively, the team totaled 41 digs and 11 blocks against the Braves.

Caroline Barnes and Jessica Nunge added three aces each. Raina Terry paced the squad with 16 kills and six blocks while Kennedy Collins added 10 kills on a .421 hitting clip. Brooke Mosher tallied a squad-best 35 assists while Lily Barry led the way with 11 digs.

How it happened

Illinois struggled early in the match, trailing 12-6 before the Illini burned a timeout. Coming out of the break, offensive woes continued to plague the Orange and Blue with the team hitting just .097 for the set while Bradley dominated with a .591 hitting percentage. The early deficit was too much to overcome with Illinois dropping the opening frame, 25-16.

The teams went back-and forth with Illinois leading 15-14 at the media break following an ace by Collins. Back-to-back points for Illinois led to a Bradley timeout with the Fighting Illini holding the slight 21-19 edge. With the set tied at 23 apiece, Terry and Mosher recorded kills to close out the 25-23 triumph.

The Illini found their rhythm to open the third set, and an ace by Barnes gave Illinois the early 8-2 advantage. A 5-0 run fueled with a pair of kills by Nunge helped the Orange and Blue extend the 13-3 lead. A 4-0 turn by Bradley led to an Illinois timeout, but Terry killed the run, keeping Illinois ahead by six. The Braves fended off set point twice, but Cari Bohm ended the set with a block to give Illinois the 25-22 victory.

The teams kept the fourth frame tight, with the Illini using a timeout while trailing 9-8. With the set close, the Fighting Illini went on a 5-0 with Barnes behind the service line to earn the 17-14 advantage. Illinois continued to dominate and Terry sealed the match with a kill, giving the Illini the 25-21 win in the fourth set.
