Tesla's brand has been permanently damaged by Musk. Sales are down 13% for 2025. Tesla's customer base are early adopters with a passion for the cause. Tesla's build quality sucks and if more people decide to go electric they will demand a much better built product.
Toyota is planning to have its solid state battery technology implemented in a number of vehicles within 5 years with significantly increased range and 10 minute charging times. If Toyota's plans are realized, Toyota will crush Tesla with superior battery technology and much better build quality.

Non-Tesla EVs now make up greater than 50% of the EV market.
So, what? How many brands? Tesla was at 600,000 units and the next best is Ford at 86,000 (7:1 ratio).

Ford is cutting back on EVs because frankly it is killing their company (a loss of about 4B per year). Ford sells 2.1M vehicles per year in the US. GM is cutting back too. Ford can't afford to increase EV sales either as they lose 36k / each vehicle sold. Hey - if we sell another 10,000 we can lose an additional $360M!

Their pure electric rivals are likely all bankrupt or burning through cash at a high rate.

I do agree with you. However, with Musk you don't have to do any research. Musk tied himself with a divisive President that his customer base dislikes. There are more electric options than ever before. Not surprising that a chunk of them will go elsewhere.

Agreed, Senator Mark Kelly got rid of his virtue-signaling Tesla and bought a gas-guzzling Chevrolet Tahoe. Most of these elitists won't be buying a different brand's crappy EV.

As shown earlier, Tesla is pretty much it in the EV game. The rest are but bit players.

You Gov poll (April 19-22). My view is that YouGov is a mediocre pollster, but it hasn't been particularly Trump favorable or unfavorable over the entirety of his eternal foray into politics. I think right now it's a little harsher on Trump, while in his first term it was often one of Trump's better polls.

Trump Job Approval - 41% Approve, 54% Disapprove
Trump Economic Approval - 41-53
Vance Approval - 38-51
Elon Approval - 39-55
Trump Approval on Trade - 37-53

Polling on Tariffs
39% Mostly Positive (Short-Term Pain, Long-Term Gain), 50% Very Negative (No Benefit Whatsoever)
74% Think Tariffs will raise prices

A couple of questions on Abrego Garcia:

Is he a gang member? 27% Yes, 30% No (plurality doesn't know)
Should he be returned to the US? 28% No, 50% Yes (I didn't love how the question was drafted, but even then this is a bad number for Trump).

2026 Election cycle should be interesting !

Senate retiring; 1. Durbin, Ill 2. Peters, Muck 3. Smith, Minny 4. Shaheen, NH 5. Frozen Mitch, Kent

There SHOULD BE MORE !

BOTH PARTIES>
Durbin will be replaced by another Democrat, likely even further to the left. It’s the Illinois way. It’s why Chicagoland needs to be a separate state they ruin it for the rest of Illinois.

Normal people don’t research the politics of CEO’s before they buy something.

Such a non-sequitur of a response. Lots of people have taken some account of politics into their buying process, just ask Bud Light.

Elon has made himself synonymous with Tesla and now Trump 2. Don’t like Trump 2 much, you probably aren’t buying a Tesla. Some people may be the reverse.

I’m not big on politics determining what to buy. But I admit it, if I detested the leader of a company, I’m probably not spending six figures on his or her product. If it’s $30, I probably don’t care.

Helluva year

Huh? Elon Musk literally built a brand designed to appeal to latte liberals, and then decided to go "all in" in the political project of the person they detest most. Why on Earth should people who dislike him be spending tens of thousands of dollars on his cars (particularly as there's more competition in the marketplace)? This was a lifestyle product, and then the guy selling it told them he hated big chunks of their lifestyle. Ironically, I yet again get to be one of the few people in a certain bucket (anti-Covid hysteria and anti-Trump and now underwhelmed by Tesla pre-Elon going MAGA and still underwhelmed after he went MAGA).

The victim complex of the right is no different than that of the left. Elon put himself in an obvious position of difficulty, that's on him. Here's the rub ... he's not going to get out of it. Tesla isn't going to win a bunch of other business races to save itself, it will at best become a niche car company come 5-10 years from now. SELL, SELL, SELL ala the Randolph brothers from Trading Places!

I am eagerly awaiting the budget deficit of the next few years to see what Elon really did for us. Here's guessing it was something akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg, because Trump won't allow him or other Rs to address the real problems in our debt/deficit - entitlements (especially SS and Medicare). Happened in Trump 1, gonna happen again in Trump 2! Yay!

Normal people don’t research the politics of CEO’s before they buy something.

Funny, you say their build quality sucks, but the TCO is great for Tesla's from the stuff posted on this board. Mind you, I have no dog in the fight. But, there really isn't a fight as the above numbers showed.

How are sales in 2025 for the whole of the EV market? Is anyone up? You do realize that a 13 percent loss by Tesla for the year equates to 78,000 vehicles which is 8,000 less than Ford sold for the entire year. It also keeps Tesla above 500,000 total vehicles sold in an unsubsidized market. That's not bad.

As for your IFS with respect to Toyota, the better battery story has been going on forever. As one section manager said two decades ago at GD, if anyone comes up with an idea for high-performance battery technology WE CAN ALL RETIRE.

Lastly, by the time Toyota comes up with this technology the game may be over. It happened with CDMA vs GSM in the cellular battle of 2G. CDMA people said our technology is superior and there was a huge PR battle. Meanwhile, GSM had 80 percent market share. Qualcomm was pissed as Ericsson and Nokia made bank.

Fast forward to 3G. Wideband CDMA technology won the day and Ericsson / Nokia were at the forefront increasing market share and now using a next-generation of the technology that they maligned in the 2G time period.

Qualcomm was right, Ericsson and Nokia won.

WBB Alexander joins Illinois Women’s Basketball staff as assistant coach

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women's basketball head coach Shauna Green has announced the hiring of Jackie Alexander as an assistant coach. Alexander joins the Illinois program after one season on Toledo's staff.

"I am so excited that Jackie is joining our famILLy," Green shared. "She brings a wealth of experience, both as a recruiting coordinator and on the court. Jackie has been an offensive and defensive coordinator at different institutions and has had success. She is a proven winner and has been a part of two major turnarounds in different programs. She understands what impacts winning! I can't wait to have her here and get to work!"

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Shauna Green's elite staff and become part of the Fighting Illini family," began Alexander. "I have immense respect for what Coach Green and her staff have accomplished over the past three seasons at Illinois, as well as the remarkable track record she's built throughout her career. Shauna is not only a proven winner, but also an exceptional leader and person. I'm excited to help build on the foundation of success and contribute to the continued rise of the Illinois women's basketball program."

Alexander joined the Rockets' staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in May 2024. Prior to Toledo (2024-25), Alexander held positions at East Tennessee State (2021-24), Eastern Kentucky (2019-21), Albany (2018-19), and Air Force (2017-18).

During the 2024-25 campaign, Toledo posted a 24-9 record, including a 13-5 mark in MAC play. The Rockets earned an at-large bid to the WBIT after securing a second-place finish in regular-season MAC action and a runner-up nod in the tournament.

Prior to her time in the Glass City, Alexander spent three years at ETSU as the assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, a group that registered a 21-win turnaround in just two seasons with a 25-10 record (9-5 SoCon) in 2022-23. The Buccaneers played in the postseason as part of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and had first-team, second-team, and all-defensive conference selections. ETSU followed up that success with an 18-12 season in 2023-24, going 7-7 in league play.

Prior to ETSU, Alexander coached at Eastern Kentucky from 2019-2021, serving as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator with the Colonels. EKU had the fourth-biggest turnaround in the country from 2018-19 to 2019-20, improving by nine wins from two to 11.

Alexander served as the director of basketball operations at Albany in 2018-19 while also holding an interim assistant coaching role with the Great Danes in 2018. She began her coaching career in women's basketball as the video coordinator for the United States Air Force Academy during the 2017-18 season.

Alexander has participated in the Top Connect Symposium the last three years (2022, '23, '24) in addition to attending the WBCA Next Generation Institute in 2024. She was named to the 2021 WBCA Thirty Under 30 List.

A native of Broadhead, Ky., Alexander played one season at Army West Point (2010-11) before transferring to the University of the Cumberlands (2011-14), where she was a two-time All-Mid South Conference selection and two-time NAIA Academic All-American. She graduated from Cumberlands in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in biology before earning her master's degree from ETSU in sport management in 2023.

Following her undergraduate career, Alexander served as an Army officer for three years, reaching the rank of captain. She served at Fort Campbell in Kentucky and was deployed to Iraq while in the Army.

Yes, Ford lost over 12 Billion dollars thanks to EV. GM sucks with EVs. The numbers for 2024 are below. If only GM and Ford had concentrated on their core business they wouldn't be in such an awful state (My whiny facebook friend complaining about tariffs killing Ford had no comment to the 12B they blew on EVs).

You are a broken, warped record. Telsa dominates the EV space. They are the only one making a profit.

You have zero credibility. You just reply, there are other EV auto companies. Yes, totally insignificant ones. Lucid - not even list worthy. Rivian, down 90 percent and now unsubsidized. Ford and GM - scaling back big time. With gas prices set to decline thanks to Trump, EVs will become even less attractive.

Telsa - 600,000
Ford - 86,000
GM - 56,000
Hyundai - 44,000
Honda - 33,000
Rivian - 27,000

  • GM’s new Chevrolet Equinox EV placed eighth with nearly 29,000 sales, while the Cadillac Lyriq (28,402) and Rivian R1S (26,934) rounded out the top 10.
