Still wrong with respect to engineers. Stil very wrong RIll. Please sit this one out to save face.More kids are being awarded Honor Roll now, despite getting worse in most subjects, especially math. If you don’t think America has embraced mediocracy this last generation, you haven’t been paying attention.
The people shouting about participation trophies for the last couple decades sure are upset about this. That’s odd.
As an engineer with an engineer daughter now getting her doctorate at a school with the latest 2-time Nobel Prize winner, I can tell you firsthand that there are plenty of brilliant American kids. The benchmark for getting into a prestigious engineering school like Illinois has become significantly harder to achieve than it was back in the 80s. Now, you argue about why that is the case (more applicants, Illinois taking more foreigners, out of staters, etc.). But, it is a fact that the standards have increased pretty significantly.
I appreciate what you are saying about the lower performing kids - even illegals are not allowed to fail. But, the top kids are outperforming their peers in math from the 80s (I am comparing 2010's Arizona math to 1980s Naperville math - the top Arizona kids are 2 years ahead by the end of high school).
The high tech companies love H1B's because they are cheaper and easier to manipulate/control.
