For the most part, I think the Trump Administration is directionally correct. You and I disagree on tariffs because I don't think Trump gives a whit about actual free trade and really does like tariffs, like he's told us thousands of times. Some of his Admin thinks they can push the tariffs towards more free trade, we'll see.
In terms of how to handle things, heavy-handed on the border seems to be working great. It seems less awesome that they won't just pull one guy out of PRISON in El Salvador tho, a guy convicted of nothing. Heavy-handed with DOGE is a mixed bag. Heavy-handed with law firms seems clearly retributive and deeply disturbing, as I'm not sure what laws they are violating beyond "associating with Trump's enemies." Heavy handed with university funding is fine in theory (I love the emphasis on merit), but more questionable in practice. The university funding is huge, and some of it is surely questionable (but most of the money is actually going to university-affiliated hospitals, likely as HC reimbursement, seems like Trump should carve that out).
That said, doing everything heavy handed is going to alienate people. Doing it some of the time looks strong. Doing it every time looks abusive and cruel. Bad politics.
Dems might nominate AOC. Vance can beat AOC (my buddy thinks they nominate AOC and she wins lol, he's not excited about it). I think they nominate Shapiro, and it's going to be an easy win for him over Vance. We'll see. If Dems maintain that progressivism is their calling card, they'll mostly lose except when Rs really piss people off. No one will ever know if that's what they are doing watching right wing media, tho.
