Our home in NY State W of WP was approaching $ 20,000 in Property taxes when we all moved in, several years ago now.
That doesn't include State Income Tax, Sales Tax above 8 %, Tax on Social Security. Not including increases in electric services, fuel oil for heat.
Not including home insurance. garbage removal.
Well water and septic system.

My wife loves Florida! We can afford the costs but many people can't. Insurance is becoming a real problem for most people. 20% self insure and average cost is around 9k.
I don't think it can be fixed, it's the cost of living in a state with hurricanes.

Texas has always had outrageous property taxes, yet it has grown immensely. I don't know the state of property tax in Florida, but with all of the tourists they are likely low like Hawaii.
A lot of people buying a lot of places. Now that Trump is getting rid of the illegals, housing should become more affordable. Hotels too! And airline tickets thanks to Trump cutting government travel significantly and drill baby drill.
I know taxes vary greatly by county but where we are looking the taxes are not much lower than Naperville.
Florida has seen a ton of growth in recent years. It’s grown by 2 million people in the last handful of years. Not surprising that it has gotten really expensive.
Great place to live, but there are issues. Environmentally vulnerable place, and very tough to insure. Probably wasn’t meant to have 23 million+ people. But yet, many like you are still trying to move there. The inflow of people is not over.
Similar here. Houses that were selling for 900k a couple years ago are sitting for a while and then selling for 8 or lower now. High interest rates and rising taxes and insurance.
Most areas in coastal states like California and Florida are built for the very wealthy and the lower class that services them. Very tough for middle class. So yes, you will see people moving out. They have to. Just happens to certain areas over time.
Side note - a lot of people in my generation do not want to buy the massive houses that those a generation before us built. We don’t have as many kids, and those houses are expensive to manage. It’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out in the next decade or so.

All in all, the total costs for me will likely be a wash compared to Illinois. Higher insurance will be offset by no income tax.

I don’t have an issue with the ruling. Why does DOGE need unlimited access to the SSA database for a fishing expedition? A plan would be nice before total access is given.

I haven't dug into the weeds but is "total access" to SSA records what they are requesting?
Trump is pushing the limits of his executive power. No other president has acted in such a manner. It will result in a great deal of court cases.
