Updated depth chart vs. Purdue

Let me know if you see any glaring mistakes.

Notes

* Kaden Feagin and Aidan Laughery are co-3's at running back. They each fit in different packages. They like Feagin in the red zone sets, but haven't really used him much yet except as a blocker.

* Henry Boyer is really coming on at tight end. He's not a deep threat, but he's a real asset in the running game and big target on the quick outs, stick routes, etc.

* Walk-on wide receiver Keion Battle is ahead of Eian Pugh, juco transfer Alex Capka-Jones, and freshman Collin Dixon. None of those three have played.

* I'm interested to see what they do at right guard. Crisler is struggling. Slaughter didn't play much against FAU. Zach Barlev is an option. It's unlikely that they move guys around again, so its a matter of replacing Crisler straight up if they feel the need.

* There's a rotation at MIKE linebacker. Dylan Rosiek is getting more snaps than Tarique Barnes, who is playing both MLB and WLB. They also gave R-Fr. James Kreutz quite a few snaps against FAU. Kreutz is the best tackler of the three, IMO.

* Nicario Harper appears to have solidified his spot at strong safety. If anything happens to him, they would rotate Clayton Bush there. Freshmen corners Saboor Karriem and Zach Tobe can also play safety in a pinch.

* Xavier Scott takes all of the snaps at nickel, so it's somewhat of a mystery who his backup is. He's played 314 snaps this season so far, by far the most on the team.

* Laughery is now the full time kickoff returner.

* Freshman PK David Olano is handling kickoff duties.

Recruiting news Jase Butler visit…

Great visit, I’m told. Illinois wants to lock this up. Butler is the top priority right now.

I think they may have to contend with some other high majors jumping in, though. He may visit Stanford before deciding and others are trying to jump in late.

I’ll try to talk to Butler today, but he doesn’t do many interviews.

As I posted before, it may actually be Illinois or St. Mary’s for Mikey Lewis. I’m not sure Ole Miss is making him a priority. We’ll know more after his visit there next weekend.

2025 Jamarion Bateman was also at Illinois this weekend. Illinois loves him and are in mix. Big time scorer.

Jason Jakstys took his official visit this weekend. I hope to chat with him today.

Jeremiah Fears was at Tennessee this weekend.

Big Ten Week 4 Power Rankings

9 Illinois (Last Week: 10)

Illinois once again found themselves down 10-0 early in the game, but Luke Altmyer and the offense racked up 510 yards, their best number of the season, in a comeback win over the Owls in Champaign.

The Illinois rushing game was particularly interesting to watch, with Reggie Love rushing for 85 yards on just 12 carries. Kaden Feagin and Aidan Laughery both had key rushes to, and all three figure to be critical as the Illini face Purdue next week.
