OT: Josh Whitman

He is currently 35-60 as Illinois AD presiding over football. Hideously bad really.

Currently getting owned by the up for law license suspension DA of Douglas County, Kansas, still yet to see a second weekend of the NCAAs, and rapidly seems to be alienating his best coaching hire.

Oh and btw the minor sports have regressed under his watch. Fundraising is nothing actually special.

What is this guy actually good at?

20+ years of gut punches as a fan

Days like today make me reflect back on two decades of Lucy pulling the football away from my hopeful Charlie Brown Illini hoops fandom.

2003: Bill Self bolts for Kansas when we’re on the cusp of becoming elite.
2004: Shaun Livingston picks Duke a day after wearing the Brian Cook jersey
2005: 15-point comeback in the 2nd half of the NC game falls just short
2006: Eric Gordon flips to Indiana just before Signing Day
2007: Jamar Smith promising career ends in DUI tragedy and nearly kills Carlwell
2008: Nothing because we were too awful
2009: Chester Frazier breaks his hand and we lose a 5/12 game without him
2010: So close to an NCAA lock but 1 seed Ohio State beats us in 2OT after miracle win in previous round.
2011: Jereme Richmond goes from McD All-American to convict
2012: Brandon Paul 45 points against Ohio State and then we go 2-12 to end the Weber era.
2013: Cliffmas (plus Quentin Snider flips)
2014: About to upset Michigan and secure an NCAA bid then Tracy Abrams misses a 2-foot floater at the buzzer
2015-2019: Nothing because we were too awful
2020: Kofi blocks Garza and we’re heading for a great postseason and back to the NCAA Tournament then the whole thing gets cancelled because of a pandemic.
2021: Everything lining up for a Final Four run and we lose to Loyola in the 2nd round
2022: Beat #2 Texas in OT at MSG and then the team implodes the next game and our coach is making fart noises.
2023: Shannon looks like an All-American leading a top 10 team after a dominant Bragging Rights win and now he’s off the team and facing a rape charge.

Sad thing is some years had multiple gut punch contenders and I picked only one.

I guess after 20 years of this I’m still here so there will be brighter days ahead (followed by massive gut punches.) Such is life as an Illini basketball fan.

Former Illini

RJ Melendez had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for Georgia in a 71-64 loss to Providence.

Jayden Epps 31 points and 4 assists for Georgetown in an 88-83 win over American.

Skyy Clark 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists for Louisville in an 81-80 loss to Texas.

OT: Bulls

what are everyones thoughts on this team?

I know a couple years ago people were really high on this front office, but more and more its reminding me of the ryan pace era with the bears. That vooch trade is absolutely awful looking back on it. Personally i think its time to blow up the roster and tank.

Games I really want to win this year

1. (Obvious) The second game in the NCAA Tournament. I won’t mention any other NCAA games as obviously we really want those wins above all others.

2. At Maryland on Feb 17. I’ll be at that game and I’m so sick of losing to Maryland. Thankfully my in-person losing streak is no more so the jinx is dead. We need to get Underwood a win in College Park.

3. Purdue at home on March 5th. Could have major title implications and we need to defend home court against all rivals. So tired of Edey elbowing us with impunity.

4. At NW Jan 24th. We need to get back to the point where we just beat NW every game. That’s how it should be.

5. At Iowa Mar 10. I’m going to think we have a shot at the conference title as long as Purdue has more losses than we do. This could be the clincher and it would be fun to achieve Francon 1 at the same time.
