What do you guys think the drones on the east coast are?
I tend to think they are craft being tested by the U.S. government / DOD. Reminds me of the early sightings of the stealth bomber before the government admitted their existence.
I'm just now picking up on that story.
The DoD has a lot of places to test such things much more discretely, and safely, than over populated coastal areas. My understanding is the craft are rather large, not like little hobby drones, so if one were to malfunction and crash into someone's home or something, it would be pretty bad.
It would seem more like they are being deployed for some purpose someone thinks is important enough to risk civilian injury rather than a new system being tested.
That no one seems to have an answer to what they are makes me think either they are not "ours", or they are the next phase of the intelligence agencies turning the Eye of Sauron inward on the citizenry. The former seems much more unlikely to me, although there are reports of people seeing them, in groups iirc, heading out to sea leading people to think they are ship-based. That in turn causes some people to suspect Iran, which has plenty of motivation to come after the US with drones.
People have also speculated that they are commercial, essentially mapping areas for drone-based deliveries and/or testing the delivery vehicles (one possible explanation for their size). If the former it seems like the flights would be during the day to get better image data of hazards. And in either case I'd think if they were commercial it would be much easier to determine what they are.
Possibly we'll find out in the latter part of January or shortly after. Of course if you look around enough you'll find the conspiracy theorists alleging the deep state is trying to accomplish something before the new sheriff hits town bringing a different philosophy concerning the roles of various facets of the executive branch. I've also heard that since the New Jersey sightings are in the vicinity of one of Trump's properties, that it might be the USSS doing something. But that doesn't explain alleged sightings in other regions.
It's an interesting story to follow, but most likely the explanation will be rather pedestrian in the end. A person would think the gov't would make providing an explanation to soothe people a top priority, but it wasn't that long ago they let a so-called spy balloon travel coast-to-coast before doing anything about it, so who knows.
