So this analogy came to me yesterday.

All on this board know that Beckie had his spat with media members this week about positivity. To me, this is totally irrelevant to almost anything Beckman does, and a complete non-story. But because it involved the media addressing its own work, it received a few days of run (and Beckman, as he's prone to do, stumbled over it).

Last night, I was finishing up a show I had DVR'd (that was recorded right before the local news in Dallas). When the show ended, the local news (CBS affiliate) began. First, I hate the local news. Second, I hate the local news. Totally unimportant, complete waste of time. Of course, their first story was to interview someone who'd been on one of the helicopters involved in the controversy surrounding Brian Williams. WTF - is this story even relevant or meaningful in any way? Not to anyone I can think of but the media. Who gives a flying crap about the trustworthiness of Brian Williams? When discussing it, the media are questioning whether Williams can still be considered an "honest broker." Are they so f---ing stupid that they actually believe that Americans are still big enough saps to consider news anchors to be "honest brokers" (which, sadly, people once did for some inexplicable reason that involved a total denial of human nature).

Enough of my rant, but the simple fact is that both are media-driven stories that have nothing to do with anything important. For Beckman, his recruiting class, spring ball, and the games are important upcoming events. For NBC and other news outlets, I'd say what's happening in Congress, ISIL, and the Ukraine. Not Tim Beckman's thoughts on the media or Brian Williams' helicopter ride in Iraq.
