Just reporting this. I have a strong opinion about it but will hold my thoughts.
The Kingfisher has a Facebook page and this was an Audubon article about it becoming the new "mascot" for U of I.
Last Monday, there was a Zoom meeting for all current UIUC students only for a Q&A about The Kingfisher. After the meeting, it was posted on their FB page that in the future there will be a Q&A for everyone else but no date was given.
if the Senate does approve the proposal then what comes next? Approval from the BOT? DIA? Who gets to vote on this (current students only or alumni as well)?
The Senate of the Urbana-Champaign Campus is a legislative body composed of about 200 faculty, 50 students, and ten academic professional members.
I sure hope that 310 people don't get to make the final call for 10s of thousands of people.

The University of Illinois Might Make a Kingfisher Its New Mascot. It should!
Spencer Hulsey, a former U of I student, began the campaign last year. This Monday the school's Senate will vote on the proposal.
