Cancer research is absolutely one of those essential functions that the federal government should be doing. IMO, they need to do a better job consolidating efforts under an umbrella organization much like NASA did during the space race. Find a cure.

Polls three years before an election don't mean very much. When Trump, Clinton and Obama won their first terms, they weren't even on the radar 3 years prior. In 2007, most people thought Hillary would be the nominee and Obama won.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Democratic nominee is someone who is not even being mentioned presently.

Agree, although I do think things are sped up in Presidential politics these days. A leader needs to emerge in a Democrat Party that seems fairly fractured and divided right now. Build a broader coalition. The base has really shrunk.
For Republicans, they need to figure out what their party looks like in the post Trump age. Will it still be a populist party? My guess is Rubio will emerge as the front runner.

Not really. AI is already heavily involved. Diagnosing or even narrowing down who should be scanned regularly through blood work markers and mapping cost very little. They will be able to take your age and other variables with your type of cancer/ stage, etc. and prescribe a treatment with % success rate pretty much instantly.

I think people are underestimating Vance. That's not to say Rubio has no chance to emerge on top, he'd probably be a solid candidate. All I've heard about Vance since he got nominated is how horrible he is, and I haven't seen it, and he seems very popular with the contemporary (R) base. Noem and Gabbard are both dark horses, but I think would make decent candidates compared to anyone that seems to be jockeying for a nomination from the (D)s.
I still think the (D)s need to essentially steal the "MAGA" agenda and get on the 80 side of most of the issues where they are still clinging to the 20 side. Unless another pandemic-style incident occurs. The (R)s need to be careful of backsliding into the do-nothing party of the Romney-McCain era or the neocon party of years past.
