Trump outperforming some down ballot Republican candidates is more a reflection on Harris than who the Republicans had running in most Senate and House races. She was the least competitive D candidate for president since at least Walter Mondale if not long before that.

True to a large extent. I don't know how much was due to her qualities, and how much attributable to the "change" cycle the US has been in since Obama, and the rest of the world governments are going through.

Can we agree that one of the things Republicans need to do is get rid of mail-in ballots? Get back to overseas/military only? Otherwise there is too much room for these late night dumps and other shenanigans. We have already opened up early voting. Make sure college students who are away from home have access to voting. And by all means make California and Arizona reform their processes.

I wouldn't object to that, but I think constitutionally the election process is left up to the states, and some states are too blue for that to happen. Seems like it's here to stay.

Constitutionally, the Federal government has oversight of elections. While Congress may not tell California how they accomplish the voting, they can create a law of expectations of when all the votes must be counted. Congress can also adjust election law to allow for mail in ballots to be in hand on election day and none can arrive to be counted after.

The Elections Clause in Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution establishes a framework for elections, delegating initial authority to state legislatures while granting Congress the power to adjust these rules. States decide the "Times, Places, and Manner" of congressional elections, but Congress can change these arrangements. This dual approach allows for state-specific solutions and federal oversight.

And I will add that mail-in ballots are likely here to stay, but ID/signature verification...there's a lot that can be tightened up.

Mike Johnson mentioned today that many states recognized the terrible sloppiness of the 2020 election and passed laws since then to clean things up, at least to some extent. Also, there was much greater scrutiny on the election process in many places this year.

The election was a week ago and Republicans are already starting to eat their young.

They have to govern now. The time for platitudes is over. That means forgetting about petty stuff like who supported Trump and who didn’t and working together to get shit done. At some point, they’ll have to stop basking in the glow of the win and roll up their sleeves.

In many ways, the GOP has always behaved like an opposition party. Learn how to govern like the majority. “Shut down the government if I don’t get my way” isn’t governing.

It’s a broader coalition now, which means more diversity of opinion. Embrace it. Stop demanding a purity test.

Besides, it’s a mistake to view Trump as the ultimate protector of conservatism. He doesn’t have those types of ideological convictions. Never has.
I don't see it this way. It sounds to me like there is a robust debate taking place. Maybe the Dems should have considered this strategy before marching out their candidate that was appointed behind closed doors.

One other thing. There’s a difference between rallying around your leader, which Republicans should do, and a cult of personality that drowns people out and alienates good people who you want on your side. You can’t run a government with five Trump sidekicks.

The tendency in eras of single party rule is to over estimate your mandate. That’s why midterm elections can be bloodbaths. Be careful, Republicans. The margins of victory in the swing states were very small.
Be careful, Democrats, The margins of votes in 49 of the States exploded !

Instituted by Lara Trump !

Those who want the USA to pivot 180 degrees from current Brandon/Harris Tweed policies should recall Trump doesn't become # 47 till Jan 20 th, NEXT year !

But that pivot is already happening !

1. Immigrant caravan thru Mexico to US is breaking up !
2. EU is pledging to but from US LNG rather than Russia !
3. Qatar has expelled Hamas from their Country.
4. Hamas wants to end current war with Isreal !
5. Russia/Putin wants talks. (Possible end war with Ukraine ?)

and that's in a WEEK !

I don't know much about her. This one's a head-scratcher to me. I know she's a proponent of keeping the borders secure regarding immigration, but DHS is a broad reaching beast that needs taming. I wasn't expecting a politician to be put in charge of that.

Noem will be very good as DHS secretary. She's done all she can for South Dakota as its governor. A female cabinet member. I thought Trump hated women?

lol…..every single time
There is an X poster who replied to this tweet. It's beyond ridiculous the Republicans have to have eyeballs in the back of their heads and be vigilante in at least 3 of the states. They tried to pull some BS on McCormick after Trump won and MCormick was declared the winner, as well.

Problem is once the GOP locked in the Trump victory, they let their guard down. Meanwhile the Dems have since stolen 3 senate seats in Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona, plus a number of house seats. So many votes tallied in the days after the election went overwhelming to Dems and what was once a 5M vote lead by Trump is now down to only 3M. GOP has to do a better job of finishing the job and seeing it to the end. All these lost positions could really come back to hurt them in the future.

It should be noted that a guy who spent his ENTIRE life on the teat of American taxpayers and should have known everyone to appoint !

TOOK 20 days to make his FIRST nomination !

Here is the Musk/Ramaswamy appointment. The Libs' minds must be exploding.
That's a lot of brainpower to bring to bear, but it's also quite a mess to unwind. I do like that they have a deadline. I suppose the question will be, assuming they find some actionable potential reforms, whether Trump will be able to execute them through his in-government team. If there's one thing empowered bureaucracy hates, it's novel good ideas.

Feels like I should be buying stock in popcorn companies.

Thanks. Probably I should have already known that. I think I was getting somewhat confused with the issue of the constitution putting federal election procedures in the hands of the state legislatures (as opposed to decrees by governors and attorneys general). If it possible to impose a federal deadline I would be 100% behind that. It's beyond ridiculous how long it takes some states. And it makes for really bad optics, the kind that gives the appearance of unethical behavior, when late votes come in large batches that always favor one particular side of the aisle in proportions that are statistically distinct from the early/in-person voting patterns from the same locations, or even mail-in ballots that are received in time to be counted within a few hours of the polls closing. Regardless of whether there are any shenanigans going on, it's a bad look that should be cleaned up simply because it's a bad look.

Nonsense. Republicans win and miraculously all of the election problems and fraud disappear, even in states run by the Dems. Except loser Hovde claims fraud and I bet Kari Lake will soon also. Truly pathetic last 4 years of claiming fraud.

Nonsense. Johnson did not say all of the election problems and fraud disappeared. He said many states revised election laws to clean things up. I'm sure you can do a Google search and find a healthy list of election law changes since 2020... if you really care.

Here's a question: Is about every instance of 11th hour ballot dumping involve almost exclusively Democrat ballots or does it just seem that way? Wouldn't the laws randomness suggest that shouldn't happen?

Great comedy routine you’ve got going on here.
