How many times has Illinois won at least 5 games since 1980? How many times have they not won 5 games. What makes any sane person believe that Cubit has to win 7 or 8 games to become the permanent coach when it has happened once or twice over the past 20 years. That is asinine.
Also, if what we saw from the back up defense and qb is accurate, it will be a very long season when Lunt has left. I can see why Cubit is protecting Lunt so much, nothing after him. The backup has the weakest arm I recall ever seeing in a big 5 conference qb.
Goes back to Beckman being over his head in recruiting. Has no idea what a qb should look like. Got lucky with Lunt.
