I was in Las Vegas this past weekend, and my wife and I went to Beer Park to watch the playoff games on Sunday. We sat next to a guy and his teenage son, and the son is a 2025 football recruit down in Florida. The kid is a monster, already 295 lbs at 16. He's going to the Under Armour camp on 2/11 in Orlando. Very mature kid, that was excited to talk about his recruiting experience so far. So was the Dad. The kid is expecting to get his first offers in the next couple weeks from UNC Charlotte and Pittsburgh. Expecting even more offers after the camp.
I asked him about his dream schools, and he said Harvard and Utah. He wants to be an investment banker, so Harvard made sense. I asked about Utah and he said it was the best campus he has visited so far, and he loves to ski. Said the toughest part about recruiting is the constant movement among coaches. He was supposed to get the Pitt offer already, but the OL coach was recently let go.
I joked that I wasn't going to make a pitch, but that Illinois would be a great fit for a kid that plays OL and wants to go to a great school. His Dad looked at me and said "I love Beilema".
The kid's name is Alex Oats. He's a C, and showed well at a camp in Orlando last winter. Massive kid, that already has the size of a college OL. Someone give BB his tape!
