It's not meaningless when the boss (through a delegate in this case) asks you for it. In the example it shows a) the employee reads email and responds to it, b) the employee is involved in a number of endeavors and supporting them in various phases of their evolution, and c) on the surface it appears the employee is doing meaningful work, which is what POTUS and DOGE were attempting to gauge. As far as the sanitation, it's largely how my status reporting and the self-evaluation portion of my performance reviews were done for 34+ years, and how routine statusing across my entire industry was handled. It's extremely reasonable and customary.

The real thing they are looking for is those that don't respond, giving them a starting point to weed out people who aren't even attempting to perform their jobs. It's a fraud hunt. It doesn't take AI to figure out who didn't respond and then assign someone in the relevant chain of command to follow up. Have you ever exchanged email with someone in the gov't? It's easy to tell which department they are in just from looking at the email address. It's only insane to someone who is so arch conservative they can only cling to how things have been and can't stand any positive change in the government. The exact opposite of liberal, though most would try to claim they were such.
Mary Anne and I had a special tour of the White House during the Ford Admin. He was at Camp David and the tour was by Secret Service. What I said was reasonable and customary was for people who worked with classified or highly competition sensitive/proprietary or active investigation type information to sanitize status reports so that information security was not compromised. It's trivial and the average employee spends more time fetching a coffee than it takes to respond to such a request.

No, the only ones making over $100,000 are those directly working for Trump and in high Admin. positions. If you want to ask them, OK, as they are in the same circle. However, good and well run businesses and government have supervisors and managers in daily or close contact with employees directing their actions and seeing that they fulfill their duties.
