..and in other news

I am curious when the suburbs will become just as burnt out and poorly managed as the big Dem cities they surround. Naperville is going to get ruined. It went blue. Some great suburbs (40 years ago) just south of Chicagoland are now very gang infested.
Just look at South Bend and their illustrious "Pothole Pete !"

The only people who attribute the primary reason for the decline of OD deaths to “Narcan availability” appear to be the junkies they interview. I can’t remember ever saying it’s not a contributing factor … but I will say again it’s not the primary factor. If anything, the articles I sent you suggest the primary factor is a decline in the lethality of the fentanyl being mixed into the drugs. I’d also suggest that there’s probably some decline in extreme abuse as we get further than Covid, exacerbated by the fact that a higher level of junkies croaked over the last decade (a point we agree on). But it’s very hard to measure whether there is a decline of 10-20% in people becoming junkies … because only a small percentage of the population becomes junkies.

Let me suggest an alternate commentary on what HR professionals have been fretting about in recent years, another thing which is abating some. We had unprecedented turnover in 2021-2023, as worker shortages meant many lower level employees could find a better job quite quickly. I’m sure it sucked hard for many HR departments and they spent time looking for explanations that didn’t involve the hard convos of “we need to pay a lot more.”

I did look up worker motivation, and the one article I found comparing the entire workforce of countries listed the US as having 33% of its workers be “motivated” while Europe was only at 10% lololol. This is why I cite to something like productivity as it’s a real objective measure of worker performance. The US has killed it on productivity for a long time.
AGAIN you post about something about Narcan and it's efficacy in saving lives of the ODs among us in the cities AND the burbs ! That you have NO knowledge !

I am licensed to administer Narcan !

The use is SAVING lives every day across the US. The suburban hospital where I worked gave out Narcan free to all the PDs and volunteer (They are all vol.) ambulance squads in their service areas, NO city, ALL suburban !
At least once a day, a squad would bring in an OD ! Narcan would save their lives, many of the OD's would be pissed that their "high" was ruined ! One skell was brought in twice the same day, once AM and once PM. He was complaining each time. I finally told his to switch to beer for the day ! "You were brought in twice and you were dead both times !"

IOW they aren’t practical outside of local driving, which is why they suck. 20 minute stops do not equate to a full charge. I know this, because I have a PHEV. It takes 2 hours to go from 1% to fully charged at 220v (Level 2 charge) Most people want to get where they are going and not stopping frequently for fuel. Here is the Ford CEO going on Route 66 with Tesla Level 3 charge (80% charge in 36 minutes). I don’t know about you, but when I gas up my F150, it doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to get off the road, to the gas station, get a full tank, and get back on the road.

I have no chargers at my office, and I’m not about to install any. Call me a scrooge. Electric vehicles are for locals at this juncture or people who like to waste their time. I thought you told Rillaman there was no issue with productivity? You know what the difference is between a 10 minute fill up and a 36 minute charge to 80% capacity is? Whatever the difference is, it’s extremely unproductive comparatively.
Level 2 chargers are typically 6 to 9 kW AC. Level 3 chargers (used by EVs on trips) are 150 to 350 kW DC. Your experience with a PHEV (none of which can be DC charged) has nothing to do with this. But let’s not ignore the point that almost all driving is “local” anyway and can be charged from the convenience of your garage.

RE: EV's. Telsa invested in a network of quick charge EV stations and until the Biden Admin threw a bunch of taxpayer money at them to open it up to competitors, only Tesla owners could use it. I have a friend who has a 5 year old Tesla and drove it from Phoenix to San Diego, no oroblem. I think he stopped once to charge it back up to 80%, which is what is recommended at these stations and doesn't take long.

His Tesla has a big computer/info screen with touch controls and it does alot. He can search for all the Tesla (and other) charging stations on his route and it tells him wait times - at least for the Tesla ones. ( I don't remember if he can reserve a time.) Anyway Tesla uses level 3 charging for their stations and it charges fast time wise.

I didn't try to understand it all but you use the computer screen to pick your charging station and the vehicle prepares the batteries for tha fast charge before you arrive to make it more efficient. It is all programmed for you.

Finally, the thing I thought was thoughtful was Tesla only allots you a set time on the charger so you don't hog it while you spend 3 hours in a diner. They calculate how much time you should need and charge you a $ penalty if you go beyond it. Given there never will be enough chargers that makes sense to me. I wish Trump would tap Elon to help get our govt more efficient :D

I get a news feed from Google each day. I do it because they include most of the mainstream media so I can see what they are saying. Usually not impressive.

Anyway, yesterday the police/FBI held a news conference in Las Vegas and said they had recovered a "journal" and a "manifesto" from the guy who blew up the cyber truck. After the news conference they were going to release them to the media.

Most of the mainstream media is reporting on his mental state, failed relationships, regrets in life, and angst about our country/govt. So far not much on the manifesto except this from the NY Post:

"The feds also found “strong evidence” that links Livelsberger to a conspiracy-laden manifesto he allegedly penned and emailed to a US Army Intelligence officer ahead of the fatal explosion.

In the email, read on “The Shawn Ryan Podcast” on Friday, the dad of one claimed federal officials were working with China to develop and deploy the mysterious drones that caused hysteria across the New York metro region last month.

Livelsberger referred to the drones as “the most dangerous threat to national security,” alleging the flying objects used gravity manipulation technology and had the ability to evade detection, the retired US Navy SEAL revealed on his show."

I assume the reporting will sort out in a few more days. It is kinda sad that this guy who served his country ends up like this.

ps. in my reading, he was a big Tesla fan and that is probably why he rented what he rented.

🤡🤡

People are mad about the Allstate video? Man I don’t think MAGA should be calling anyone “snowflakes” any longer. That was a generic and bland “let’s get along” speech, and Outkick getting worked up suggests it’s searching for content (not good for the long-term biz model if this is what drives outrage now).
Mad 🤣 🤣 🤣

Companies are jettisoning DEI for a reason including lawsuits and payouts over the problems it causes. I know of a Top 100 company that made it a priority to promote based on diversity. A year later they put out a directive to let go of the bottom 10% performers. Take a guess at what that group was mostly made up of. If you promote or hire people that are not prepared for the position, that is your fault. Not the employee you put in a bad position to be terminated. Unconstitutional hiring/promoting practices are made even worse when the group you are trying to help sues you for firing them.

I have no reason to care personally one way or the other. My rat race is over. But DEI is doomed for good reason.

What does that have to do with the Allstate commercial that prompted the Outkick backlash?

I’m as anti-DEI as you and while I don’t think my employer would go down that route for some fairly obvious workforce-related reasons, I’d actually be in a position to oppose such efforts if needed.

Outkick wrote a whole article about the commercial and multiple MAGA “thought leaders” melted down over it. Gonna be amusing to watch those types get the same backlash as the woke lefties did, as they aren’t doing a good job of recognizing they’ve won the public debate on the topic (which was fait accompli, DEI is belligerently stupid and anti-meritocracy, so it was never going to have the staying power many feared).

People do not like to do business with woke companies. I am not sure anyone pointing out a woke CEO or others commenting on woke CEOs is considered "melting down". Wake me when MAGA "thought leaders" start putting in safe spaces and mental health counselors like the ones you are comparing them to.

I read your article. It's entirely premised on the Sugar Bowl ad. I saw the ad live, thought it was mildly lame, and never thought about it again until I saw it has turned into a RW hothouse issue due to your post. The whole matter is premised on the Sugar Bowl ad.

I'm glad you are making a different argument because there's no defense of being upset about the original commercial. Someone wants to go after Allstate for their DEI policies? Have at it, I'm all for it. But the backlash was spurred by the lame Sugar Bowl video. Elon and Charlie Kirk both went after it. I have no idea how it merited a second thought, and yeah Elon and Charlie are the same sorts of "snowflakes" they now like to go after.

And btw, when you demand that companies stop being political, you are demanding a "safe space" from opposing politics. The issue is, of course, both sides do this. The left would assuredly cry a river if companies started running pro-MAGA ads.

Bottom line, I don't understand the grievance politics of almost anyone in the modern USA. I really, truly don't. We need mass deportations of the aggrieved, both left and right.

Yeah, I agree with this, and it's why I didn't take issue with a lot of the conservative backlash to things like the idiotic Bud Light campaign (and I may not have purchased much Bud Light since).

But I'm not seeing it here. This is "can't we all get along" corporate gobbledygook. Is anyone really offended?

I have an alternate theory. Websites like Outkick are concerned they won't sustain their growth levels (and over time may lose viewers) as wokeism falls apart, and are going to increasingly try to manufacture outrage on things that are largely innocuous. Like Breitbart in 2016, Trump's 2024 election probably the Waterloo for the right's cultural vanguard.

I will bet that you do not know whether a business you have a transaction with is woke or not. It is the MAGA nuts that are obsessed with woke, no one else knows or cares about it. I do business with those that have the products I like. Hell, one is MAGA Heaven , overrun with Trump lovers and gear. I don't care because I like the products they sell.

It wasn't the "can't we all just get along" thing that probably rankled people but the timing of it. There were 14 dead victims with many more injured and the "let's go out of my way to say something" statement made no reference to the real tragedy of the day.

One election cycle win isn’t getting rid of DEI. It took RDS and other states, including AG’s getting involved, to start to dismantle the racism. Without activism from the Right, DEI continues. It will take more than one election cycle and diligence to get rid of the anti-democratic, anti-meritocracy, anti-American values of DEI and the billionaires who programmed the masses who believe this is OK.

Well, we can pretend any criticism is demanding a safe space, but one side literally has safe spaces. You are stretching a hammy on your point, amigo.

Except this argument doesn't account for how the video was attacked (at least by those who got attention). The attack is "wokeism."

The real reality is that MAGA is a grievance movement, and is going to find out things to be aggrieved about even when the opposition stops providing them. Watch how that plays out ... not well I'd guess.

I am guessing you to be mostly wrong as usual, Stonedax. I kept my Costco membership after I found out they are woke. I finally walked away from the NBA for a variety of reasons including them constantly having their leftwing nonsense in my face. How much I value a companies product and service will dictate how long I ignore their political stance. A CEO can have his or her opinions, but you risk my business if I have another similar option or if I get tired of seeing their stance publicly.

Costco is woke? Certainly hard to tell from the purchase of giant bags of toilet paper lol.

I've been to more NBA games in the last couple years than I had been for awhile prior. While the league definitely went all in on wokeism for awhile, I think that's pretty much gone now.

Has nothing to do with Dem cities. As cities get older, and bigger, they develop problems. Has nothing to do with politics. Highest crime cities and states are Red. Next stupid theory.

Wokeism was going to collapse regardless of whom any of us voted for, but like you I’d extend a big round of applause to RDS for taking it head on at its apex.

And it’s mostly dead already. At this point people are going to spend time slapping around a corpse.

If you care about what companies are woke rather than how good a product they deliver, you are a fool.

BS, you have no insight into what goes on internally. All you know is the quality of the end product. You are worrying about nonsense, what are you a efficiency expert?

Any Landman fans on here? Pretty entertaining show imo. My neighbor owns a 35,000 acre shale oil development in south TX. He has not watched the show yet.
