..and in other news

Posting a couple of notes on the current crime situation without much comment. Still can't believe how many humiliated themselves on this topic when simply refusing to look through a partisan lens gave pretty clear insight. I also can't wait for the Trump victory parade on the decrease in homicide rate (begin falling markedly by early 2023) and OD deaths (began falling dramatically by mid-2023). And I say this as someone who thinks GOP policies on crime reduction are markedly better than Dem policies.

"There were likely more than 5,000 fewer murder victims in 2024 than two years earlier, and it behooves us to understand why that happened and what we can do to continue the positive momentum. Denying this reality also denies us the opportunity to learn and save lives in the future."

"America’s crime trends in 2024 were remarkably positive with an enormous decline in murder, a continued small but steady decline in violent crime, and a sizable decline in motor vehicle theft on the heels of several years of surges. The nation’s murder rate has largely erased the post-COVID surge and was roughly around or 2019’s level while reported violent and property crime were likely amongst the lowest rates recorded since the 1960s and 1970s. This assessment is based on an evaluation of data from multiple official and unofficial data sources all painting the same picture.

Murder likely fell at the fastest rate ever recorded in 2024 after falling at the fastest rate ever recorded in 2023 based on an assessment of 2024 crime data from numerous sources. The Real-Time Crime Index has murder down 16 percent in 309 cities with available data through October 2024, the FBI has murder down 23 percent through June (though it’s almost certainly overstating the decline), the CDC has homicide down 14 percent through May (provisional count), and the Gun Violence Archive has fatal shootings down more than 11 percent as of mid-December."

I had hoped you had gone away with these BOGUS stats !

I just finished reading the entirety of Sterling’s thread. I was going to place it here, but you essentially beat me to the punch. It’s great info.
Yeah, the main point with Australia is Australia was protecting their workers up until recently when they apparently allowed an unlimited number of people from India to work freely in Australia!

In my case, I was working on a DOD job that could only be done by a US Citizen with special credentials. So, I was not 'stealing' an Australian job. But, it made no difference - the price of doing business there was to get the visa and pay an equivalent salary to Australia!

This is what stupid people do. They blame the vaccine even though they know nothing about Vontae’s health.

I’m 40 and overweight and got the vaccine. Why am I not dead yet? Shouldn’t all the vaxxed be dead by now?
Haha. Stupid is 40, vaxxed, and overweight without any curiosity how an elite athlete in top shape died. It's been 9 full months and the easy autopsy result that would explain his sudden death is nowhere to be found - drug OD, bad mix of prescription drugs, murder, suicide, etc. Nada.

hey TJ, are you going to unfollow this guy? Or do you have tolerance for him?
You really need to get a life and spend some time with family. I feel sorry for you. Being stuck in the middle is tough - but good to see you taking a stand!

And no, if I am following that guy I will not unfollow him! I don't expect anyone to agree with me 100 percent!

Just to be clear, people are upset that American companies are choosing mediocre foreign talent over the top American talent?

But also upset that someone said American culture embraces mediocrity?

Again, quite the corner you guys have backed yourself into.

Oh Rill - you are a sad man. It's pretty pathetic to watch you implode to end 2024 this way - with Trump arriving in 21 days!!!!

Yes, American companies are choosing cheap labor over better American talent. One would have to be stupid to not understand that. If they can get 80 percent of the productivity from a foreigner at a much cheaper cost - it is a big "WIN" for the company. And shareholders like me, FWIW.

Does a segment of American culture embrace mediocrity? Absolutely, it is your Democrat party that not only embraces mediocrity but votes it into office.

I'd say your DEFCOM JEFF stage is around 3 right now. You are very close to announcing your full embrace of the Democrat party. Transitioning is hard, but you are almost there Rill!

American soccer. Years ago USA soccer hired a German to lead the organization. His comment was the US soccer has great athletes, but they are too robotic. That was a product of too much tournament ball and not enough focus on player development. Do you think you are the only person who has thought of this? You aren’t. I’ve had these conversations regarding youth sports and player development for 20 years with many other coaches and have tried to move parents to understand certain things. I can also tell you D1 coaches talk to the travel coaches, not the high school coaches these days in many sports. You are late to the party. You don’t seem to have a fix for it either. That cat isn’t going back into its bag.

Yep, knowing a thing or two about soccer I can see how it has evolved. The best American players go to Europe very early because that is what one has to do. The US has really tried to have an American coach for the US team and generally speaking, there aren't many great US coaches. The US just hired another European to lead the team due to the importance of the home World Cup in 17 months. In '94, they had Bora M. who didn't speak English as coach - did a great job.

As for basketball - it is the World's game. Frankly, the ROI for recruiting in Europe has been extremely high for Underwood now that he has figured it out. Half of the first round picks seem to be foreigners for a decade now. Why would you ignore that talent pool? Better coaching, better fundamentals. But, here again we are talking about ELITE talent, not H1B types. The US has plenty of that talent.

Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Sergei Brin - these are elite talents that have created millions of jobs between them and provided great wealth to countless people Hope Rill bought NVDA in February 2020 when I announced my purchase. I know the fake TJ, aka Icky, will be greatly upset by that.

I remain perplexed you have never provided any statistics to rebut any of this. Because, of course, they don't exist.

I cannot wait until 18 months from now that you are lauding Trump for the yuge crime and overdose reductions we've seen since these issues peaked in 2022 or so.

Trump will do a better job than Dems on a wide array of (but not all) issues. I wish him the best. But he wasn't responsible for the increase in crime and OD deaths that began late in his Presidency and peaked in the middle of Biden's. This was largely Covid-induced (and for OD deaths, exacerbated by the deadliness of the fentanyl being sold and/or mixed with other illegal drugs).

Did have a history of head injury. That’s the only thing we know.

The question is will it cause more than existed? Of course not.
Yes. You are a globalist that has the interests of foreign nations . I am America first. You will call me a Christian fascist or whatever but we are sowing death in the Middle East.

Yes, face reality instead of hiding like an ostrich. The US is a global super power. The only one. It is up to us to keep peace, and when we play ostrich due to America First Nationalists, like in the 1930's,you should know what we get.

It’s fugly and what happens when you run out of juice trying to keep up with Jeep Wranglers?

We don’t get anything. We tired of fighting your tribal conflicts around the world .

You have a hard head and a selective memory !

MANY months ago I told you that a HUGE percentage of crimes were not being tabulated by the FBI from MAJOR Law Enforcements around the USA. It approached 30 + % not reported from high crime incidents like NYPD AND LAPD !

That the Statistics were ESTIMATES by the FBI unit tasked with accumulating WAS Confirmed by the FBI, that you refused to believe of the wonderful FBI !

You hate for me to TELL you actual occurrences which add up.

This week the safe MTA Subway proclaimed by our NY Governor, the same day she proclaimed it safe, a woman was burned to DEATH ! Yes, the crime was ANOTHER Illegal alien, caught during the Trump years and deported, and returned in the Brandon 4 years. But in case you think it a obscure incident, ANOTHER person in the Subway was set on FIRE yesterday, but lived !

Today 2 separate crimes in the Subway occurred with 2 riders being slashed with a knife !

The NYPD estimates that 60 % of ALL crimes, both property and personal go unreported in NYC !

The Guardian Angels (A volunteer organization led by Curtis Sliwa 25 years ago !) was reformed today, with Curtis present !

NB: First murder in NYC on Jan 1.

Another example of declining American culture. We have just accepted a crazy amount of death on our streets, and the # is undercounted. LA with about 6 per day. That’s f’n nuts. Denver is close to 1 per day.

People act like it’s no big deal. Oh well, metro areas are going to have a lot of unhoused dearh, just a minor inconvenience.

Our standards have fallen, there is no debating it. We haven’t just accepted mediocrity, we’ve accepted much worse. It seems like some want American culture to be branded based on how the top 10% live. What does life look like for those that aren’t living in the suburbs? It’s not that great.

With all the talk about India, I just looked and they have passed China as the country with the largest population. India now has 1.45 billion people. I remember when India "only" had 650 million (1980). More than doubled their population in a couple of generations and they don't get alot of "migrants, if anything they export people.

Half of America’s young men aren’t even trying to find a woman anymore. They have given up.

Do you think business owners typically prefer a family man that is motivated to make $ for his family, or a single man living at home with his parents or in an apartment with a roommate? Give me the family man, 9 out of 10 times.

Most people believe India became the most populous country quite a few years ago. It’s just that they don’t have anything that resembles a reliable census (if they even attempt one).

India is still a highly patriarchal society with traditional gender roles. Expectations are that women stay home and have babies. With limited options for women, it would explain the high birth rates.

Need to get back to getting drunk at a bar is OK, too. Support your local live bands. Get the 4 O'Clockers having sex again. Alcohol is good and righteous. Getting lit breeds temporary confidence.

Yes, this is a very complicated conversation. So many variables involved. But young people aren’t having babies like we need them to.

I guess we should thank God that nearing 55% of Americans now live in suburbs. It's amazing how one can parse the world when you can actually distinguish between a relatively small underclass and the rest of a country with a staggeringly high standard of living.

Humorously, 2024 brough us ample journalism from high quality publications like The Economist (based in London) who have really taken notice of the growing separation in growth/success between the USA and the remainder of the developed world.

I'm going to duck back out again after posting a few times yesterday and today.

But let's be clear on one thing. The USA is crushing it relative to the world. And it's not because Obama/Trump/Biden are great leaders, in fact I think they all sucked in their own special way (Biden worse than the other two). We have a very dynamic economy and population. Yes, the poorest folks here are likely worse off (in part due to less robust government services for the poor) than they are in many other advanced democracies. But for the productive class - which includes well over half of Americans (I consider the poor to be about 15-20% of the population) - America is much, much better than almost all peer nations.

There is ample evidence on this. Just use Google and go look up various comparisons between the USA and the remainder of the world. And quite frankly, many of our social problems that get a lot of run here (particularly crime and drug use/overdoses) are functions of the downside of excess freedom (which drives a much greater upside).

The nation is not in decline. Biden's sorry ass didn't cause decline. Trump almost certainly won't either (and his upside is higher). The next political campaign isn't worth convincing yourself how things suck.

And by God, I should have plenty of cred about telling people when things suck. At least on Illinois message boards.
