In looking at our recruiting there is a few ways to think about. 1) The sky if falling!!! We got rid of our recruiting coordinator and now we have a bunch of NFL guys who don't know how to put together recruit visits. We only have 2 commits, one of which is a reach. Other programs are raiding our state and there is nothing we can do about it. Lovie is over is head and we are done. 2) Its April we have another 10 months to go. Our first commit was the most important at the most important position QB. Lovie has a group of coaches and administrators who know what they are doing and can handle the duties Sternquist was responsible for. 2017 is a really down year for Illinois football talent, who cares if we don't get the top guys in the state. Most important of all, We are now playing big boy football no longer do we take commits just to take commits. We did that it didn't work. If we are going to get the kind of players that are going to change this program its going to take some work and this staff is willing to wait on the program changers rather then take commits from lower level prospects.
I choose to believe #2 over #1. This staff knows what they are doing. They are in on some big prospects and as such have to play the game. We haven't been winning so we got to do things a little different and that takes time. I for one am glad they are doing it this way rather then taking 2nd tier prospects this early.
