Yes. All good points. You're right, there aren't many examples of democratic countries being created out of dictatorships... but they do exist. These come to mind: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in the Baltics. Slovenia and probably Croatia out of the former Yugoslavia. Even some (certainly not all) of the former Soviet republics are somewhat democratic.
No doubt there's a danger of Syria becoming a reconstituted AQ or ISIS. However, it's different in this situation as they also have to become a sovereign state. It could end up as another Afghanistan but I think the probability of that happening is low. There are too many other countries around Syria that have a deep interest in seeing that doesn't happen: Turkiye (I think that's how they spell it now), Israel, and Jordan to name three. There was no corollary to those surrounding Afghanistan.

No one is defending Assad, stonedhead. Deep State orchestrated a coup in Ukraine. All they have done since is get Ukraine in a war they can’t win and are only hanging on with US money we don’t have. Iraq didn’t work. Afghanistan didn’t work. The Soviet Union didn’t work. Who would have thought that a group of people who were always ruled by kings and subsequently brutal communist dictators would all of a sudden when freed understand how to use that freedom and excel in a democracy?

The political left needs to abandon their position on “trans kids”, or they will be left behind by the rest of the sane world.
People of the future will be horrified when they read about us neutering kids that were going through difficult times.

Wrong as usual. Congress passed a law in 1968 that put the FBI Director into the hands of the President with Congressional approval. In 1976 Congress passed a law permitting an FBI Director to serve up to a 10 year term. Forgetting the interims, Kelley, Webster, Sessions (William), and Freeh never lasted a full 10 years. The range was anywhere from 5-9 years. Mueller is the only one to serve 10 years, and he got an extra 2. Thanks, Obama. Either way, you told a whopper and the Press is telling a whopper. They are chosen by Presidents and approved through advise and consent of the Senate. No, you are wrong. It is a 10 year term. Can be fired sooner for cause. Can be extended longer like Mueller.
I dunno, AQ taking over? I'd just suggest it's a little early to be running around declaring a complete victory. I'm neither clinging to an upside nor a downside at this point. I learned not to do that after they took down Hussein in Iraq. What is a worse scenario than the sadist Assad regime, and its close ties to Russia giving Russia Naval and Air bases, and a conduit for Iran's evil? It is a win, stop trying so hard to see the down-side.
Agree with stoney on this one. Assad was absolutely hated by everyone except Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah. That should tell us something right there, not to mention killing civilians with nerve gas and chlorine. What is a worse scenario than the sadist Assad regime, and its close ties to Russia giving Russia Naval and Air bases, and a conduit for Iran's evil?
