The Illini practiced today in full pads from 10:45 to 1:00 pm. Thursday practices are 9:45 a.m. and 5:00 pm.
LB Mike Svetina was in the red jersey with a boot on his foot. Kendrick Foster still no contact with a hamstring. Joe Fotu out with a strained calf. Megginson knee. Sean Adesanya hamstring. Andrew Davis hamstring. Kenny Nelson still out, but I'm not sure what his injury is.
Some random notes:
* Emphasis on special teams today. Kick coverage, downfield blocking, FGs, etc. Zalewski is he No. 1 kicker right now over Reisner. Returners are Bentley, Mosely, Corbin, Taylor, Day,
* Individual position drills were very specific and detailed today. Alignment, gap assignments, coverages, blitzes. downfield blocking, shedding and tackling in space.
* Josh Ferguson got work in with the wideouts today.
* Position notes: Julian Hylton is with the safeties. Freshman Frank Sumpter is with the WRs.
* Eaton Spence had a nice pick of a Lunt throw in the corner of the endzone during 7 vs. 7. Spence isn't a burner, but he's smart an physical.
* Most of the team stuff was red zone today. The defense won the day. The pass rush was okay, but the coverage was very good. Lunt had a small window on most of his throws.
* They ran about 20 plays with live tackling. Ferguson and Vaughn were both really good. Vaughn had a short touchdown run up the middle.
* Vaughn's carries are all with the 1's now. He's going to play a lot.
* WR's who will be in the rotation: G-Mo, Turner, Mays, Taylor for sure. Then others battling for that 5th spot among Cain, Murdock, Stone-Davis, Grant.
* Reggie Corbin had a 50 yard run on an outside zone play. Really showed some jets.
* Fitzgerald and George continue to battle for the No. 3 QB job.
* Freshman DT Jamal Milan moved up the depth chart, as expected. He's now getting his reps with the 2's and battling Tito Odenigbo for the 4th DT.
