I didn't see the official opening mentioned in any other thread. This position holds incredible possibility for Illini Football. We could go in so many directions with it.
  1. Do we bend a knee for Cory Patterson?
  2. Do we seek an offensive strategist as a co-OC to allow McGee to do what Doug has said he's good at (teaching/development) while stepping back from his weakness (game day)? Our last co-OC experiment failed because of the individuals involved, I think, though it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
  3. Do we find a big-time recruiter regardless of coaching stripe or acumen?
  4. Do we hire from within (eg. Sheelhaase promoted from Analyst)?
So many possibilities. Used correctly we could see quite a boost without any other coaching changes we have discussed happening. I cannot wait to see how we use this to our advantage. What do you all think? Can we go for a splash or are we financially tapped out? The answer to that question might tell the tale.
