Within the Midwest over a 13 year period ('17 through '29), the top 3 programs were Notre Dame, Michigan and Illinois.
The Ohio State juggernaut hadn't been established, and still to this year the Illini own the 2nd most wins over Ohio State of all league members.
The Illini won about 2/3 of a game more per year than Nebraska in this span. (There was no Big 8, and I wonder who Nebraska was scheduling?)
