I was looking at Northwestern’s roster and I noticed no Flynn Nagel. I was thinking he had another year left but I was wrong. It brought back the mini controversy when Howard Griffith thought that Nagel was going to be better than Mikey. It’s hard to compare since Mikey played 19 games and Nagel played 40 but the numbers are interesting.
Dudek 93 catches 1227 yards 13.2 yards per catch 7 tds
Nagel 160 catches 1763 yards 11.0 yards per catch 6 tds
With all Mikey’s injuries he had a better ypc and more TDs. I think it’s clear if he had stayed healthy his numbers would have dwarfed Nagel’s. Not a big deal but it pissed me off when after the amazing freshman year Mikey had Griffith felt compelled before Nagel had played one game to say he would be better than Dudek. I’ve seen a lot of Illini receivers and his combination of speed, hands and ability to go up and catch the high throws was unmatched. A great kid from a great family that will always be one of my favorite alumni.
