I wouldn't be surprised that Mike Small is your next AD if this thing is moving quickly, as Brad and Doug are reporting. I know they are saying names like Rick George but I'm just not so sure of that.
George is making $700K living in Boulder and I'm sure is lovin it. Probably spends a lot of time in the mountains, probably loves the culture in that mountain town and gets to live the life rollin with the big dogs. It would probably cost Illinois upwards of $900K a year to get him, I've never seen Illinois to have/spend that type of coin. This feels like more Kevin Summlin, more Shaka Smart, more Brad Stevens...
Back to Small... IF this is moving quickly, as in the next 3-4 weeks, you'd need somebody close. Real close. Somebody that's been preparing, moving behind the scenes. Is comfortable with the university dynamic and culture and somebody with the acumen that could raise money, build projects and hire quality coaches based on experience of what it takes to build and coach a championship program.
IF Illinois is truly wanting to hire a new FB coach now, which I believe they do, they need a AD in place pronto. To me, that signals Small.
