I'm hoping Illinois fans take a step off the ledge. Honestly, I pegged Illinois winning seven games this year and that's not going to happen. Maybe it was the Dcudds outrageous and outlandish predictions that never come to fruition, impulsive manic let me post thoughts that sometimes a few of us posters are know to partake in posts.
Yes, I'm a fault.
But, seriously, this rebuild of the program is going to take at least three years. We as Illinois fans cannot jump ship right now. If anything, we need to continue to support and do as much as we possibly can on an individual level whether that be wear our Illinois gear proudly on dress down Friday's, give our season tickets away if they don't sell, try and keep a positive attitude when being provoked by fellow co-workers who are adversary Big Ten alum (especially NU), continue to donate (if possible), etc.
I've had some conversations with some folks that are dialed in and we're concerned that Lovie and some of his assistants may jump ship within the next year or two if things don't turn around, especially with lack of support. I think this staff truthfully knows how much talent we really lack, which they'll never address in an interview and honestly I commend them for that, and the daunting task required in trying to resurrect this program. I think they truly believe that they can get it done and I believe that as well. But, it's going to take time and if we don't have fans showing up at games supporting the movement, why in the world would a super bowl coach want to waste his time and energy on that type of fan base?
I'm probably going to get nit picked from some of you and I can take it, but seriously, let's just try to enjoy the process. Hopefully pull off some upsets this year (especially Michigan State) and continue to show up at the games supporting this program.
I'm a donor and season ticket holder that has yet to attend a game this year. But I always give up my tickets for free if I can't sell them for face value. Why? Because I want an Illini fan in the house attending a game.
No reason why some of you couldn't do the same thing. For those of you that are already doing this, my apologies.
If we want to talk football, one of the reasons this team is not very good is because of the offensive line. On the offense, that's where it starts. This staff has already landed some Big Ten caliber (possibly NFL caliber) offensive lineman. We just have to be patient folks. If we get those kids in here, we're going to be good in 2018 at the earliest, but most likely 2019.
I know some of you are probably really good investors, so we need to have the same mindset. I know it's tough at times when we're losing to Western Michigan (which really is a decent team), but try and keep that investment focus or thought driving your perspective on Illinois football. It's going to take time and we by far have the best coaching staff we might ever have.
I don't know if this makes sense, but to me it does. Just some random thoughts on a Tuesday night.
