This isn’t working under Lovie Smith.
His layed back, hands off style doesn’t fit in college football. He’s doesn’t give all that much of himself to sell this program and his act in front of the podium is wearing very thin.
Recruiting isn’t happening. Kids want to win.
Lovie is dedicated to a defensive scheme that will not work. Hardy Nickerson isn’t the right guy, but it’s Lovie’s defense in reality. Cover-2? Really?
There’s a lack of discipline in the program, on and off the field, and they’re bleeding good players.
Can Lovie turn this around? Maybe. But it will require him to face reality, and I’m not sure he’s capable of doing that.
I like the quarterback situation, and the offensive line will be good. There’s talent in the secondary. Marquez Beason and Isaiah Williams are studs. Rod Smith is excellent. Obviously, it’s still a young team.
But will they be able to get out of their own way?
