Several years ago I was interviewing real estate agents to sell our house. In a burst of candor, an agent said: “It’s not that hard. Everybody uses the same MLS system, puts out flyers and has open houses. Frankly, a lot of real estate agents aren’t that smart. I am successful because I work harder which means I have more connections.” I hired him, maybe because he was able to mirror my thoughts. We had multiple offers before the MLS listing was even public.

Football coaching isn’t that much different.
God know why Illinois makes it so hard.

Mike Thomas screwed the pooch because he wanted to scratch the back of the search firm that hired him. That reciprocal scratch yielded Tim Beckman from Ohio but did not put Tom Herman or Matt Campbell on the list. Those two coached a pretty big game last night in Austin.

Ron Guenther wanted someone who was cheap, clean and called him Coach.

Neale Stoner made it look easy.

So, it’s not that hard to hire a good coach. You just have to forget you are in Illinois.
