A lot of people like to compare Brad Underwood's rough beginnings at Illinois to John Beilein's rough beginnings at Michigan.

My jaw fell to the floor when I saw this....

In 17 years as head coach of West Virginia and Michigan, John Beilein's teams have finished outside the top-50 in Defensive Free Throw Rate only one time.

It was last year.

I don't think it's a coincidence that a guy who clearly has a system of teaching his players to play good defense without fouling is having overwhelming success in an era of college basketball that has seen rule changes which make it so easy to foul.

Hopefully Kofi Cockburn ends the aggressive defense and fouling madness at Illinois once and for all.
