Been reading the latest board meltdown following the Purdue blowout. Lots of reasons offered for the loss: poor coaching, blown assignments, poor tacking, poor technique, miscommunication, bad quarterbacking, team not ready to play, inability to make in game adjustments, etc. I agree with all the above. Another major factor besides playing a lot of young guys is that a good portion of those receiving significant playing time on offense and defense were rated as only 2 star players coming out of high school. I'm all for 'coaching them up' and 'finding diamonds in the rough' but when a significant portion of the on-field team is operating at this talent level it's hard to overcome. We have 20 such individuals. Ideally most of these kind of kids shouldn't see significant action until their 3rd or 4th year. That's not where we are at and there is no magic wand. We are in for a long slow rebuild - much longer than any of us want.
