Illinois had NOT fired Zook and kept him for most if not all the years between his departure and now.
I can't imagine that it would have been any worse than it was.
Zook was a better recruiter than most of what we have seen in most of those years.
Bad game coach but decent recruiter.

I know we always want to hire "the guy" that will turn everything around and perhaps we have done that in Bielema.
But though it would have been frustrating with Zook, I doubt it would have been any more frustrating than it turned out.
I get it that the coaching profession is WIN or get booted, but sometimes the devil you know is better than the new one you bring in.

Partly plays into ADs trying to make their mark but after Guenther who was a mixed bag at best (good for minor sports) Thomas was a joke, and I "think" we have a good AD now, or at least it seems so in my humble opinion.

Just curious what you all think.
Trying not to think about the loss I expect to see tonight (while hoping I am totally wrong) so putting up a different topic for discussion.
