Even for Illinois, the comments around the retention of Cubit sank to a new low. So low in fact that he is now the world's most under-underdog. So I am rooting for the man and the Illini to succeed. Since he is on a likely one year contract, how does he get to year two?

1. Wes Lunt. This guy needs to go to the weight room and take a bunch of 'special' vitamins so he has more durability than Grandma's bone china. Let him run a little, just enough to keep a defense guessing and give a slight bit of relief to the Oline. Is it that hard to learn the Aaron Rodgers slide?
2. Backup QB. Have him ready to go, hopefully with some wheels AND an arm. Will Chayce Crouch be the backup? Or will one of the redshirts jump in line?
3. Receivers. Hopefully the return of Mike Dudek and Justin Hardee and the maturity of some of the freshmen make a difference. JC receivers should see a GREAT opportunity to play right away and catch a lot of balls.
4. Keyshawn Vaughn- An obvious RB talent but a relatively weak freshman. Get him in the weight room.
5. Oline-- Add one more hog to the recruiting mix, JC or high school.
6. S&C Coach. Since I have mentioned strength twice, Cubit needs to get Coach Lou back. If not him, get the best guy possible.
7. Assistants. Give Cubit some money for a staff. Since Cubit is working for the salary of an SEC coordinator, use some of that saved money on an upgraded staff.
8. Admissions. Give him one or two passes in recruiting. At least.
9. Florida. Rent a condo in North Florida and have an ace recruiter live down there through the first week of February. Fire him if he does not put 6,000 miles on his gimme car between now and then.
