Herendeen Joins Team USA for 2025 Palmer Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – Fighting Illini sophomore golfer Max Herendeen has been selected to compete in the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup as part of Team USA, it was announced Thursday (May 29).

Herendeen will make his debut at the prestigious Ryder Cup-style event, which will be played June 5-7 at Congaree Golf Club, located outside Ridgeland, S.C.

Herendeen received unanimous First Team All-Big Ten and PING All-Midwest Region honors for the second consecutive year after leading the Illini with a 70.84 scoring average over 43 rounds this season. The sophomore from Bellevue, Wash., finished inside the top 10 six times, including four inside the top five, and carded 14 rounds in the 60s. Herendeen is a member of the 2025 U.S. Elite Amateur National Program and was the first Illinois freshman to be named a Second Team or better All-American as a 2024 PING Second Team All-American. He was also the 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a member of the 2024 GCAA All-Freshman Team.

Herendeen is the eighth different Illini men's golfer to compete at the Palmer Cup and gives the Orange and Blue a representative for the fourth time in the last five years. Other Illini to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup are: Tommy Kuhl (2023), Adrien Dumont de Chassart (2021 and 2022), Nick Hardy (2017), Charlie Danielson (2016), Thomas Detry (2014 and 2015), Thomas Pieters (2012), and Scott Langley (2010).
