Helluva year

You are the best at whataboutisms. How does this excuse Trumps nominating unqualified nut jobs?
“Whataboutism.” LOL. If you weren’t complaining about the incompetent boobs hired by the Brandon Administration, all you are complaining for is because it’s the other party. Moronic analysis on your part, as usual.

Again, unable to respond to the incompetents that Trump appoints. Your inability to do so is an absolute confession.

I have available time on my hands from a long life as a high earner, after the NJSP.

I wish you the same success when your "practice" winds down as you mature.

One of my Nephew's an Attorney, has retired to the golf courses in Palm Beach County, Fla. Another Nephew has scaled down his legal work, he gets a phone call every day about the Jersey Shore surf conditions. Good surf he straps on his board into his classic Corvette and heads South on the Parkway for some waves !

TDS 1.0 AND TDS 2.0 are recognized satire attached to those that accept anguish for EVERY facet of President Trump's actions.

Yet here he is...

I enjoyed one mean post by me, but I really don't want to keep going. I am not here to denigrate the success you've had in life (you obviously have a nice retirement in Florida and a nice family you are proud of), but when someone says something pro-Trump, you love it, and when they say something anti-Trump, you rip it.

That is not engaging in real argumentation or showing intellectual integrity. That is fandom. Trump ... good. Dtrain ... bad.

If you actually read my posts - and at least two of the Trump fans here clearly do - I repeatedly tell you where I think Trump is getting things right and where he's getting them wrong. I think the tariffs are an insane, awful policy with no basis in reality. I think Trump is doing great on immigration and anti-DEI. People with intellectual integrity can hold both positions. I would suggest that saying Trump is awful on some issues and great on others is about the furthest thing from "TDS," because I am literally evaluating each thing he does. I have a deep disdain for Trump the human being and think he doesn't belong as President, but I also think his first term (until the night he lost the 2020 election) was "mostly good and he was treated unfairly in the Russiagate 'scandal''. Again, people thinking through issues may have differing opinions about the same guy depending on context.

Relieved to read that Trump nominated a woman without a medical license, that never finished her residency to become a surgeon, that sells quack vitamins and supplements on-line, that is an anti-vaxxer, to be the Surgeon General. Another fine pick by Trump!
Yeah, he should have hired an indoctrinated Harvard socialist that supports forced vaxxes, lying to the American public and is in bed with big pharma.

How about someone that practices medicine or at least holds a license, rather than a seller of crap on the internet?

Yesterday @OhioIllini argued that it was "nonsense" that Trump's 145% tariffs on China are an effective embargo. It was a galling, laughable argument. I'd say bad faith, but he seemed to sincerely believe it.

Today I see a quote from someone who completely disagrees with the position he took - DONALD TRUMP. Who is exulting in the effective embargo he's placed on Chinese goods! Hilarious. In fairness to Trump, I do think the coming negotiations will see the temporary rate slashed considerably, but probably still to a tariff level above the pre-Liberation Day number.

Here's Trump's quote on this issue:

“Now we’re essentially not doing business with China. Therefore, we’re saving hundreds of billions of dollars. Very simple.”

Thank you for proving me right, Donald! I didn't doubt you!

I’m not a fan of this tariff thing at all but keep in mind China has manipulated a lot of things for decades to create beneficial conditions for themselves and it has largely been ignored…not sure what the answer is but certainly it’s something that needs to be addressed.

I give this post an A+.

I think all reasonable people would have supported an intelligent strategy directed at China, even if it meant higher levies (tho 145% is still dumb).

That was always the problem with a general 10% rate on everyone plus the lunatic AI-generated, miscalculated trade deficit rates that managed to be imposed on several uninhabited islands to boot.

The question was more about shortages, not an embargo. Some alleged experts were predicting barren shelves which I don’t believe will happen. No matter the tariff on a China-made TV, there will be plenty sourced from other countries. How many things do we import from China because there simply aren’t any other options?

145% was an inflated amount based on China's response

"Nonsense. Tariffs don't equate with embargoes. Any product deficiencies are simply from retailers being scared to order goods they aren't sure they can sell at a higher price. Things people "need" will be there for them to purchase. Things people like to buy because their prices are crazy low might not be. Those who have been in international business know this. Rag writers probably not."

Your own words hang the most recent dose of garbage. You argued that the 145% tariff was not an embargo. Trump distinctly states that it is.

Now you try and change your (sorry ass) argument. But yet again, Trump has discussed this in his doll analogy. Going from 30 dolls to 2 more expensive dolls is in fact a prime example of a shortage. For anyone who has paid a modest amount of attention, there will certainly be shortages in things like toys, certain types of clothes/shoes, and plenty of other low end goods where China dominates the marketplace. I suspect the same applies to a variety of goods that need certain Chinese-made parts, as well.

That said, what I think you believe is that the shortages won't impact you. Probably not, the richer you are, the less you rely on Chinese-made goods from Walmart. Instead, they'll hit a whole lot of unsuspecting Trump voters upside the head.

There is zero need to eat shit sandwiches from Trump. His economically illiterate policies beget stupid and chaotic results. Of course the courts may save him, by taking away his emergency tariff toy. There are still ways to go about imposing tariffs, but they are time consuming and tedious, so I doubt the Trump Admin even bothers after the present morass.

Huh? What? China matched the original tariff and then Trump went higher every time they matched. Apparently only Trump gets to act ... that's not the way life works.

Trump's got them at the table after 5 weeks because they understand Trump is serious and the impact on their regime is not good.

I agree 145 percent is an effective embargo similar to a high-powered GPS jamming signal. It's exactly the point of the negotiation. If they choose not to buy pork from the US, they have to find another source to help feed a billion plus people.

Thank God for Trump for negotiating from a position of strength while we still have one. The Chinese 'control' of the Panama Canal is over. Their control over our pharmaceutical & rare earths supply has to end.
99 mocks Trump for his methods. The alternative is kicking the can down the road which was the easy choice made by every other president.

You responded to the same post three times. You should sit this one out.

Pirro is certainly an interesting choice. I thought low rent Fox News "minds" were already causing Trump ample embarrassment.

And I like Hegseth more than most of the alternatives lololol.

As I said to Best yesterday, the Trump fans who apologize for Trump by making better arguments that they would make on these issues rather than defending the terrible ones Trump actually did make are an interesting lot.

There was no point in the other tariffs if blasting China was the real goal. They were counterproductive.

Today, Trump is pointing at China because the rest of the most beautiful word in the English language is in tatters. Sorta at China, when he's not tweeting about tariffs on "foreign films." Lol.

Learning that TJ and Best are smarter than Donald Trump is something I actually knew already, they don't have to prove it here by creating legitimately better anti-China and other trade-related strategies.

It's pretty obvious.

Nope. This is the post that set you off:

I've yet to read a coherent and logical argument for why tariffs will cause major shortages. Is that because there isn't one?
From there, you launched into embargoes for unknown reasons.

Again, moronic. Here was my response to that post. You called this post quoted below nonsense. Are you just stupid? I mean, I literally answered your question, and then you offered a nonsensical rebuttal contradicting Trump. Let us be clear here, I stated the 145% tariff was an effective embargo, and you called that "nonsense." So nonsensical Trump agrees. My favorite part is you tacitly informed us about your international business acumen while making one of the most illiterate arguments about it I'll ever see.

"Huh?

They will cause shortages and empty shelves because a large number of consumer goods are manufactured in full or in substantial part in China, the current tariff rates are tantamount to an embargo on such goods, the normal flow of goods shipped to the USA are way, way down (see the article I'm linking), and without the goods, there are shortages/empty shelves. Trump actually seemed to understand this when he spoke about his "two doll" limitation btw.

Right now, the port and freight industries in America are petrified. Even worse, the fact that goods aren't going to the USA is actually going to help consumers of the same goods in every other country in the world, who will know have more supply for some period. You're welcome, Italians!

I'm sorry that a GOP President whose junk so many of you slobbered is letting you down. It's only getting worse from here. Enjoy the ride into the toilet. I sure will!"

When you for whatever reason continually get the facts wrong, I am thrilled that you read my posts to correct your assumptions on events in the world or my life experiences to date.

For example, didn't I just post that I ran a 95 man Stock Brokerage firm as a Series 24, General Manager in Palm Beach County.

That was when I lived on Jupiter Island, which is partly in Martin County.
Now I live W of WP in the Hudson Valley, NY State. We moved to babysit Matt & Amanda's 4 Sons, now 2 Sons left at home.

I dabble in the Options market with my Roth IRA, but don't like to hold them long term. The trade I sold this AM went up another 2 points !

I have no affinity for Trump, my contacts with him over the past 30 or so years, I am sure have made no lasting impression on him. But I do appreciate his efforts and desire to improve the lives of Citizens of the USA.

He certainly is going full speed ahead for what he was elected to accomplish !

Rooting for him to fail, is IMO rooting for the USA to fail ! I want the BEST for America, my 3 Sons families and my 10 Grandchildren !

Does that sound like a rational person ? Or one affected by TDS 2.0 ?

Just asking...
