Helluva year

No, the "massive" immigration reform act, was not just about closing the border, it had provisions for guest workers which we need, more immigration judges which we need and other necessary provisions, that is why it was comprehensive reform.
If the border is not "massively" leaking, why do we need more judges?

None of those provisions were necessary for closing the border, as we quickly found out.

This is a genius take.

Yes, a President can do a much, much better job of shutting the border than Biden ever did. 100%.

The point of legislation is to hamstring the people like JOE BIDEN WHO ARE NOT SHUTTING DOWN THE BORDER.

I'm taking crazy pills, as intelligent people just deny things that are obvious to make political arguments. The border bill (which wasn't perfect but was better than what's still law) is a cudgel against a Democratic President, not something a Republican President needed.

But all credit to Trump for living up to his promises on the border. He's done that, and unlike some of the other nonsense, I think Americans clearly voted for this.

To boot out the people that Biden let in who should have never been able to pursue an asylum claim.

We need to move these cases as fast as reasonably possible. Which has the added benefit of allowing any future claims to be adjudicated more quickly.

Stop taking the pills. Now that Trump won election and secured the border, Congress can pass the necessary portions of the bill without legalizing the addition of up to 2M illegals per year as that disastrous bill codified.

Yes, you are crazy, that was an awful bill. I'm pretty sure it was illegal to do a lot of things which Biden did like open the border - something about a constitutional oath to uphold our laws.

Why do you think new laws would stop them? After all, the weak Republicans funded the invasion.

You are so eager to justify your moronic vote for brain dead Biden and cackling Kamala that you don't even let the dust subside even a little bit. Jeff cheers negative growth! Then the real reason comes out and the stock market quickly recovers 400 points.

Hopefully, the Federal spending orgy is being reduced. I know for fact that Army contractors working remotely have been cut. All travel is being scrutinized including travel to Crimson Viper 2025 in Thailand. University research funding is being cut - and I recently came into some quality information from an overseas doctorate. US universities seem to take a much larger cut (say 20 percent) that goes to general operations - not the research itself. Foreign universities are much lower. As with everything, the correct answer is in the middle.

But, your boy Joe didn't care nor did your girl Kammy.

While I think the general take on the Q1 GDP number is "don't panic ... yet" and a small decline that probably relates to structural reasons more than bad underlying conditions isn't a disaster, I'd prefer we cite to economists and not dubious pollsters with home invasion convictions for our #hottakes on the number.

The thing that's bad for Trump about this is that a bad Q2-Q3, which seem pretty likely, will mean that he gets the Trumpcession that will probably cripple much of his Presidency. His ace in the hole was always the strong economy from the first term. Being the person identified as most responsible for a recession in his first year back is not the best for him or the GOP.

That bill didn't legalize anyone, in fact. Simply untrue.

But I'm with you on this. The GOP Congress needs to pass sensible immigration controls with the trifecta. I hope that's coming.

You really need to understand immigration law and practices under Joey, as an Attorney.

Under Joey illegals were coming over everywhere. They are only supposed to enter thru Legal Ports of Entry if claiming asylum.
Joey didn't enforce that provision.

So illegals were given appointments to come before an Immigration Judge.
OVER 90 % never appeared for their appearance before the Judge.

NOBODY in the Federal Law Enforcement was tasked to remand them before ANY Immigration Judge !

So not needing more Immigration Judges, JUST ENFORCEMENT FOR APPEARANCES !

Fail to Appear penalties like in Criminal and Motor Vehicle Courts.

It does not appear to me that an increase in judges is necessary. A border patrol officer may have a few one-offs, but definitely not required.

Legal Framework:
  1. Expedited Removal: Under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA), foreign nationals apprehended within 100 miles of the border and within 14 days of entry can be subject to expedited removal. This process allows immigration officers to deport them without a hearing before an immigration judge, unless they express a credible fear of persecution (triggering an asylum process). In expedited removal:
    • No full due process (e.g., no right to a court hearing or legal representation) is required.
    • The individual may receive a brief interview with a Border Patrol officer and, if claiming asylum, an asylum officer for a credible fear determination.

That is your "dubious" pollster quoting something called the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Trump is keeping taxes low, increasing energy production, reducing spending and red tape. Basically, the Republican formula that promotes economic growth. So, why do you think it won't work this time?

Beto has made a very good living losing elections. Why let the grift stop when those suckers will keep supporting you even if you lose, lose and lose! Go Beto!!

The economy was in decent shape before Trump took over. The economy was growing and inflation was in check. There was nothing to fix until Trump screwed it up.

Please point to any economic indicators that showed the US economy was in trouble prior to Trump taking office.
Get a damned grip already…. Omg what scaredy-cat’s some of you are.
We need a trade reset and he’s trying to do it. Because of poor past leadership, we have to go through some pain before we get to where we need to be.

Jeff is dying for Trump to fail because Jeff is all-in on his conversion therapy to far-left Democrat.

I do credit Jeff with turning the market around this morning! As soon as he soiled his pants with the (insert heavy breathing) recession post, the market rebounded about 800 points. After the close, META had earnings which BEAT forecasts. Their advertising revenue was UP. Couple that with Alphabet also beating last week, and that essentially means advertising is UP.

When in a recessionary economy, advertising spending is usually one of the first things to be cut even if it is counterproductive. Jeff's wish may not come true.

I've long advocated for a very hard line against asylum claims at the border.

However, what about all the people Biden let in who are long past the 14 day period for prompt expulsion? I don't think it takes a lawyer to understand this doesn't cover the backlog.

That's why we need to beef up the immigration courts. Also the quicker you process the no shows, the quicker you can boot them out.

Once he reverses the tariffs that he never should have put in place, it will work just fine. Unfortunately, the impacts in 2025 are already largely baked in. I wouldn't expect any better than a break even year, and a recession is quite possible.

Long term ... the standard GOP establishment economic agenda is a winner. All the things you cited have been staples of GOP Admins. Only populism added the dumb plank of tariffs and international trade skepticism.

The economy is so bad, I sold a spec house yesterday for 4.5 million. A cash deal that closes in less than 30 days, no contingencies. The other three buyers that have been hovering the last two weeks are disappointed. It was my first time experimenting with building to sell. It's not really my industry, but I like it 😜 . Thanks DJT!

Let's announce some trade deals and get some momentum in equities!

And here is how Democrats break the law. More judges are effective only if the law is being followed. No such thing was done by the Democrats and Biden since it was all planned.

My UBS managed slightly aggressive ROTH is down about 8 percent from its peak. This ROTH which I am tracking was up 50 percent combined in 2023 and 2024 (thanks NVDA). In fact, it is only down about 3 percent since the first of the year. In the world of investing, a 3 percent downturn after 3 UP years is fantastic because it means the gains have found a reasonably stable floor.

Jeff just needs to grow up.

Your post means nothing relative to the overall national economy. Real estate is greatly influenced by local economic conditions. Where I live, Naperville, real estate is a hot seller's market while Sarasota where I am looking to buy is a very cool buyer's market. The reasons for each have nothing to do with Trump.

Trump is an incompetent as proof by his tariff rollout. The longer he pursues a trade reset the worse it will be for everyone. The best he can do right now is to try to undo all the tariff BS ASAP.

My ROTH is UP 64 % in the past 3 months !

Is that bad ?

Meanwhile I am accumulating the various means to survive any SHTF issues.

I found out(while in Havana) the vast majority of those old classics are taxis.
Because a normal Cuban citizen does not have the income or ability to own a car.

It wasn't so long ago that the Cuban Government issued electric rice cookers to it's people. Only one problem, the entire island was on mandatory electric power RESTRICTIONS.

I do appreciate that I do not even need to tag you in a post to troll you. I also do not declare the economy dead in 100 days. Now, I am going to celebrate popping my cherry in spec homes in Key West tomorrow with a bunch of singers and song writers. Trump is the best, Jeff 😜

Come on, that shows your total ignorance of the immigration issue. There are maybe 3M to 10M people already in the country that have applied for amnesty or some sort of protective status. With the limited number of immigration judges, some project it could take 10 years to hear their claims.

My ignorance on the immigration issue is not total. I don't think so, anyway. I am thinking it is more in partial lane;)

Location, Location, Location.

Another story about Jupiter Island; My RE agent that assisted my buying the house lived on the Island and turned out to be my next door neighbor. She had lived on the Island for over 20 years as a RE agent. When I asked her who she would recommend as a mortgage lender, she looked at me aghast ! She had never sold a home in OVER her 20 year career that wasn't a CASH deal with NO mortgage.

The past owner held the mortgage for me. He was busy developing a private island that he owned in the Bahamas.

His principal business ? He manufactured those green reflective street and highway signs, that you see all over the USA.
