CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Former Illinois and NFL fullback Jason Davis was hired as the sideline reporter for football games on the Fighting Illini Sports Network. Davis replaces Carey Davis, who took over as head coach at Hazelwood Central High School (Mo.).

Jason Davis played in 39 games at Illinois from 2002-05, rushing 81 times for 327 yards and a touchdown and catching 74 passes for 644 yards and five touchdowns. As a senior, he was honored with Illinois' Rotary Service Above Self Award.

Davis signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent out of college and went on to play five seasons in the NFL. He played for Philadelphia in 2006 and 2007, spent 2008 with the Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders, and was with the New York Jets in 2009 and 2010. The Bears were coached by current Illinois head coach Lovie Smith during Davis' time in Chicago.

Davis currently resides in Chicago.

The 47-station Fighting Illini Sports Network – plus SiriusXM satellite radio and TuneIn internet radio – brings Illinois football to fans across the nation with Brian Barnhart and Martin O'Donnell calling the action.
