Trump says a lot of things to tweak the deranged and upset the norms. It is his style. You shouldn't take everything he says at face value. The fact that you are deeply upset means that this alleged statement of his has worked! You are now distracted and focused on something that you shouldn't be while Trump is achieving his real objectives.
In the meantime, he has kept every campaign promise. Those who voted for him are happy and those who hated him like you are even more deranged than you were 6 months ago.

You can make an argument that Trump has a method to his madness when it comes to the wall or tariffs. That argument falls apart when it comes to Trump talking about a third term.
It would completely in Trump's character to pressure Vance to make him his VP to have a third term.

Probably not worth the effort. Not referring to any of our learned fellow posters here, but in general a certain cohort hangs on every word Trump says simply so they can run around and scream liar liar or feel like they have an excuse to go burn something. I tend to agree that Trump has learned how to employ distraction. Attention spans are short and many of his tasks are long. Every week the bureaucracy cultists foam at the mouth over some new thing while the administration advances issues on many fronts. And it's also his way of bring attention to issues that have been ignored far too long. Many of his tactics are not how I'd do it (and likely I'd be infinitely less effective) or my favorite way to see things started, but I think we're way past the point where we can tolerate polite do-nothings, and much of what needs to be done will be messy and painful. And those that have profited from the status quo will scream long and loud at even a hint of reform.
They don't bother me per se. I find it interesting that there is a MAGA base that accepts everything Trump does without question and actually think he speaks with a plan and doesn't recognize he is a loose cannon.
