Based on the numbers I was able to find, a 20% staff reduction would knock The IRS all the way back to prehistoric 2022-2023 staffing levels, a Wild West time when no one bothered to file their taxes because the IRS didn't have the bodies to handle returns. Good thing I got mine done already, since like 2/3-3/4 of filers, I got a refund, which was processed in record time for me. Obviously half or more of the 25%-33% of filers who wind up owing each year are going to be sitting this year out. Just ask unnamed officials referring to non-public secret internal IRS data.
Everyone should practice tax avoidance using every legal means available to them as a matter of common sense. Maybe you meant tax evasion?
Thanks for the link but I don't have a WaPo subscription to read it. But, I'm not worried. All of the rich progressives (who certainly have read this article) will kick in extra money above their tax amount to make up for the tax evaders. Or, is it possible, many of the tax evaders will actually be progressives themselves?
We who believe in America are not opposed to mass deportations, we are opposed to a deportation without due process review guaranteed by our Constitution.
Tax avoidance is not black and white. As a CPA, I have seen certain taxpayers that would be comfortable with the most aggressive strategies and others that were not. There are certain tax avoidance strategies that are much more aggressive and carry a risk of not being allowed by the IRS. It is balance of risk/reward. If the risk of disallowance is decreased, more taxpayers will pursue more aggressive strategies.
In addition, more tax evasion will occur as well but I would think more dollars would be lost as people are willing to take more risks with their returns.

What does CBO projections have anything to do with the monitoring of tax revenue by the Treasury Department? They are not even comparable.
