Between moving out of state and having 3 kids I hadn't made it to CU for a game since the 2009 season. Have attended a number of road games and the game at Soldier but have missed CU. Some thoughts on being back:
1. I am beyond impressed by the amount of amazing tailgates that people are still putting together down there. These people are single handedly making our game day experience feel big time. I wonder how well the DIA knows the people that park in that lot to the west of Grange Grove? They are the life blood of this program.
2. Grange Grove is a good concept. Could be really something with a competitive program.
3. Ticket market is not the same as every else. I was bringing 3 kids under 3 to the game so really didn't want to pay a lot for a ticket as I knew our time in the stadium would be short and constantly be distracted. There is very little quantity on Stubhub, that quantity for the most part is priced over face, the price does not move closer to game time. Very little selling going on outside the stadium after game time. There isn't a ticket window in Grange Grove. In the end I ended up in the Assembly Hall parking lot ticket office as no one could direct me to ones closer. It was cheaper for me to go to a Cubs Division Series game against the Cardinals than it was to go to today's game... either the Cubs underpriced their tix or U of I is over pricing.
4. The crowd in the stadium seems to have the same numbness about the program as I do. I used to get passionate about every game where as now I just watch and root but don't expect us to win so don't get upset when we don't. I felt the same thing around me today. People are there to be there and support. There is no hope.
5. I still miss the Garcia's hot air balloon.
6. Sitting on the east end the stadium looked full as I could not see EB. What a beautiful site it is with the place packed in orange.
