I slept on this post and decided to still post it this morning. While I certainly appreciate what he contributes to the Illini when his head is in the game, I will NOT miss Hawkins’ antics on (needless technical fouls) and off the court……after they finally beat MD @MD, the Boys, led by Hawkins, acted like they’d beaten an undefeated team rather than a 14-13 MD team!!??! And Hawkins continued by trolling Purdue??
While I certainly think it is okay to have fun, my original thought was why “poke-the-bear” and why get ahead of yourselves with this smack talk?? Why is Hawkins popping-off before the Illini have played their very difficult closing schedule: @ PSU (where we traditionally play poorly); playing Iowa twice while they are on a roll; a much improved Minny; @ Wisky; and Purdue @ home?? With Iowa winning at MSU earlier this week and coming to Illinois Sat. needing a win to boost its NCAA chances, I’m see another potential “L” for the Illini…..difficult to believe that Hawkins is a senior and still so immature at times—he didn’t seem very locked-in last night, as his 3-11 shooting and 5 rebound game will attest, and his brain cramp in the last minute single-handedly cost the Beloved a victory…..I will miss the “good Hawkins” play, however, I’ll not miss his lack of maturity and leadership—apologies for the “rant”!
