Has anyone else noticed the shift in the last month with respect to COVID and sports?

The NFL basically said that they aren't testing any more so the final 8 (now final 4) teams won't be disrupted. No way Aaron Rodgers was sitting out the Super Bowl because of asymptomatic COVID. (He will be sitting out the Super Bowl because of symptomatic playoff failure.)

If your entire team has an outbreak, then you still can take a pause. Anything short of that is don't test, don't tell.

If Curbelo was sick while he was playing at Maryland and missed the MSU game because of COVID protocols, doesn't that imply that he had COVID while he was on the court at Maryland? My wife would have murdered me if I came back from the MD game with COVID (thankfully I appear to be in the clear) but it's odd that Curbelo could have infected anyone in the arena along with players and coaches on both teams and nobody cares. I guess it's possible that he had the flu on Friday and then followed that up with COVID on Tuesday but that seems a bit unlikely. I assume he wasn't due for a test until after Friday's game and that people only care about test results as opposed to symptoms.

Honestly, I'm fine with that (it's long past time we treated this like any other illness) but I was just struck by how that wasn't even a story. Underwood just sort of mumbled something like "we follow the protocols and I don't ask questions" and that was the end of it.

If I'm way off base here (I guess Hawkins had the flu -- maybe? -- and could have passed it to Curbelo) and it really was two different diseases back-to-back then I apologize.

Otherwise I think the sporting world is signaling to us that the pandemic is finally over. Guys can play D-1 sports with COVID symptoms and everyone is fine a week later so there's really no more need for special protocols. I suppose 85% of the country is long past this whole pandemic situation and I live in the other 15%. I'd be thrilled if we get 100% back to normal.

It's about time.
