Diaco played at Iowa and made a name for himself as Brian Kelly's defensive coordinator when they played Alabama for the national championship. He went 11-26 in his three seasons at Connecticut. Connecticut is a school that was really hurt from a football standpoint when the Big East collapsed. They are now in the American Conference whereas they were in a major conference when the Big East was around. They aren't able to recruit the same kids they were able to a few years ago. Most believe that Diaco was fired due to him not wanting to make the staff changes that the administration wanted him to make....most also believe that UCONN already knows who they want and will most likely have their new head coach in place before the start of the new year.

Joe Moorhead (OC - Penn State) is the first name that comes to mind; however, reports say he is not going to be in the running....on the contrary to reports, UCONN would really be doing themselves a disfavor if they did not go after Moorhead....hard.

Others being mentioned are former Maryland and UCONN head coach Randy Edsall, former Houston and currently Texas DC Todd Orlando (former DC at UCONN under Edsall), Les Miles, and Al Golden (former Temple and Miami head coach). Don't be surprised if Greg Schiano isn't involved in this search as well. UCONN's AD was at Minnesota when Jerry Kill took over there...does he reach out to him? I think it's a possibility.

If Moorhead isn't interested, if I were the UCONN brass, I would target Greg Schiano first, then Jerry Kill, then Al Golden, then Todd Orlando...I would probably interview Les Miles as well if he is interested although I'm not sure this is a job he would be interested in.
