Cincinnati Bearcats guard Ge’Lawn Guyn has been granted his release from the university according to head coach Mick Cronin. In fact, here’s Cronin as reported by Tom Groeschen:
“I’ve given him his release,” Cronin said, in an interview with The Enquirer. “If he decides to graduate and transfer, that’s up to him.”
The Bearcats coach added this:
“He hasn’t been with the team since Christmas,” Cronin said. “He is focused on graduating. In the second semester he has just focused on academics.”
Guyn would be able to transfer and play immediately once he graduates. It seems like he’s on the right path for that.
Ge’Lawn played in only two games this season before hurting his pinkie. Over his Cincinnati career, Guyn appeared in over 100 games. He scored 312 career points. As a starter last season, Guyn made a career best 31% from three point range, averaging 4.5 points, 2 rebounds and an assist per game. While his offense was solid, defense was his calling card. Guyn was probably UC’s best on the ball defender the last few seasons. His role on this year’s team is ultimately unknown, but he did start the first two games and one would figure that he would play a big role in the guard rotation.
What’s next for Guyn is unknown. He’ll transfer out to a place that will give him an opportunity. That seems to be all he wants, an opportunity. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like his career will finish at Cincinnati. Guyn was a key cog on the consistent run of tournament teams at Cincinnati under Cronin.
Bearcats Blog wishes Ge’Lawn Guyn the best in his future, if it’s as a Bearcat or if he finishes somewhere else. All the best to him and his family. To end, here are a bunch of Ge’Lawn Guyn pictures.
