Illinois wants to get more athletic, and they did that by adding Walker to the class. He's a raw player at this point, but has a high ceiling. You don't necessarily see his athleticism translate to the football field right now. We saw it in a camp environment, where he showed that he's an excellent all-around athlete. I liked him better in camp than I do on film.
Walker will play corner at Illinois. His cover skills & technique need work, and he's hesitant tackling at times. He's able to stick to WR's at the high school level because he's a better athlete than just about every WR he has to cover and has excellent change of direction.
Walker had more of an impact at Oswego East when he had the ball in his hands on offense and special teams, but he's not a natural runner. Will definitely play defense at Illinois. The good thing about Walker is he will enroll in the spring, so he will have the opportunity to refine his raw skills and learn how to play cornerback. I don't think he steps in and plays as a freshman like a Nate Hobbs or Tony Adams, but it depends on how fast he progresses. He doesn't run quite as well as those two.
