Some things you guys didn't ask about in the mailbag thread:
Fastest players on the team? Josh Ferguson, Julian Hylton, and V'Angelo Bentley.
Eaton Spence at the other CB doesn't run well. He's crafty, but he just doesn't have much catch-up speed.
Hylton is working at safety, and he looks more natural there than at CB.
LT Austin Schmidt is actually the best looking offensive lineman right now.
Most improved on defense? DT Joe Fotu. He's more lean and is moving really well.
Most improved on offense? WR Malik Turner. Stud. Future pro.
Henry Enyenhi and Dre Brown better show something, because the thought around the program is Ke'Shawn Vaughn will make a big impact when he gets to Illinois.
Andrew Davis can run the like the wind. If he gains 25 pounds, look out. NFL draft pick. But will they throw him the ball?
The other JUCO tight end Ainslie Johnson didn't have a good weekend, IMO. We'll see.
Justin Hardee was really good. They have 4 very good wide-outs in Dudek, Turner, Allison, and Hardee. After that, there's a significant drop off.
Biggest surprise? Freshman QB Jimmy Fitzgerald. He throws a very nice ball. Tight spiral. And his knee looks good.
Biggest disappointment? Long way to go for the JUCO offensive linemen.
Former walk-on WR Zach Grant looks like he can contribute. Tough kid, runs tight routes, and good hands.
Kickers Zalewski and Reisner were both solid, but they always are in practice.
I like Mike Phair. He's a high energy guy and is always teaching. (and getting some blank stares from the players sometimes, which tells me he will improve their technique.)
