National Signing Day 2017 is upon us, as Lovie Smith inks his first recruiting class at Illinois. The Illini football Twitter account will bring official word when each NLI arrives beginning at 6 a.m. CT.
The Illini are expected to sign a class of around 25 prospects. As of Tuesday, the class ranked No. 41 nationally and No. 7 in the Big Ten Conference. The class currently includes three 4-star prospects, 14 3-star prospects, and six 2-star prospects.
Illinois did well in its own back yard, landing nine prospects from the state of Illinois. Five prospects from the talent-rich state of Florida will ink with the Illini. Providing the foundation for the class are four offensive linemen that add size and athleticism. The Illini also filled holes on the defensive line, which was a must in this class.
Prospects still on the board on NSD include defensive linemen Jamal Woods, Zion Debose, and Bobby Roundtree, and punter Brad Robbins. Woods is set to make his announcement at 9:30 a.m. CT. Debose will announce his decision on Friday.
Lovie Smith and his staff will hold a public NSD event at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center on the U of I Campus (601 S. Lincoln Ave., Urbana). Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m., the program is slated to begin at 6:15 p.m.
