CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The first piece of Illinois women's basketball's 2023-24 schedule has been revealed with the Fighting Illini facing off against Notre Dame from the nation's capital on Saturday, Nov. 18, in the second-annual Citi Shamrock Classic. Action on the court is slated for 12 p.m. CT, from Entertainment & Sports Arena – home of the Washington Mystics. The game will be televised live on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

In addition to the highly anticipated matchup on the court, Friday will feature a women's leadership luncheon, offering both teams an opportunity to hear from a select group of the most powerful women in business and sports. Additionally, both teams will participate in a community service initiative presented by Gatorade.

"We are thrilled to take part in this year's Citi Shamrock Classic and have the opportunity to spotlight not only the sport of women's basketball, but also women leaders on the heels of the 50th anniversary of Title IX," shared Illinois head coach Shauna Green. "The events surrounding our game against Notre Dame provide our student-athletes with the chance to network, connect, and give back in our country's capital. On top of all of that, we can't wait to compete against an elite team on the court on national television - this is great for women's basketball!"

Last season's inaugural Citi Shamrock Classic between California and Notre Dame marked the first women's college basketball game aired by NBC.

Game tickets for the 2023 Citi Shamrock Classic will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, Sept. 28. Illinois women's basketball season ticket holders and I Fund donors will receive further communication on how to order tickets prior to the general public on sale.

The nationally televised game marks Illinois women's basketball's first-ever game aired on NBC or Peacock.

Illinois' trip to Washington, D.C. will be just the second time in program history the team has played in the nation's capital. The first occurrence came on Dec. 4, 2016, at George Washington.
