with this season over this offseason determines whether there is hope for the Illinois football program under Lovie Smith. The freshmen class has some really talented players but this staff needs more recruiters and there is some dead weight in that area. We also clearly need to move on from McGee. None of us are at practice so hard to tell how position coaches are doing but Butkus has yet to have a remotely competent OL at Illinois. Williams has basically done nothing as a recruiter at Illinois and your DB coach had to be able to recruit. There's no reason to keep Ligashesky either. Way too many huge errors on ST this year and he isn't a recruiter. I'd move on from all of them. The defense is moving in the right direction but one more year of offense like this and you aren't going to show improvement on the field and recruiting is dead. Lovie can get it done at Illinois but not with McGee as OC.
