A "couple" of other useless side notes no one but me cares about =):

1.) Going off memory, the 88 points scored last night pretty sure is our third-highest output in series history not including OT games. We put up 101 in the 1989-90 game (101-93 win) and 92 in the 1986-87 game (92-74 win). The 88-89 team was close at 87 points (87-84 win);

2.) Worth noting, we scored 107 in the triple OT loss in 1993-94 (108-107 ... and, no Garris did not miss THREE free throws at the end of the second OT, it was TWO =)). And 96 in a 96-85 OT win in 1995-96. And 86 in an 86-81 OT win in 2000-01;

3.) Other non-OT contenders were the 1996-97 team who scored 85 in an 85-69 W and the 2002-03 team who put up 85 in an 85-70 W;

4.) I think I noted this elsewhere, so apologies if this is a repeat. When Bardo and the other commentator were discussing the biggest series blowout of 82-50, Bardo said it was the Deron-Luther crew in 04-05. That was inaccurate. The 82-50 game was the following season, Dee's senior year where fans dumped popcorn on then-MIZ coach Quin Snyder's head;

5.) Ironically, the 04-05 team "only" won 70-64. Led by 15 at half (38-23) but never could put Missouri away per se. In fact, it was down to 4 points inside of a minute and we almost turned it over. I mean, that game was never seriously-seriously in doubt and I'm certain there's no way that team would have lost regardless, but, it definitely got too close for comfort;

6.) And, as I've blabbed about, that's the game I like to cite as "any win in the BR game is a thing to cherish." We were 10-0, ranked No. 1 and obviously a national title contender. Meanwhile, MIZ was 6-4 and ultimately below .500. Yet, again, the game was well in doubt inside of the final minute;

7.) This was by far our easiest win when stopping a Missouri streak. To support, after MIZ won 4-straight from 1991-94, we needed OT to beat them in 1995-96 (96-85). After MIZ won 3-straight from 1997-99, we needed OT to beat them in 2000-01 (86-81). After MIZ won 4-straight from 2009-2012, we needed two Abrams free throws with 4-ish seconds left to win 65-64.

Thanks as always for tolerating my ramblings! Merry Christmas all!

Go Illini!
