One of the principals in the growing storm of controversy surrounding the University of Illinois Athletic Association admitted Monday that many of the allegations against him are true.
Vance Redfern, senior associate director of athletics at the Champaign school, confirmed published allegations that maintenance workers at the school performed a number of tasks for Redfern on company time and with company materials.
The Champaign News-Gazette, which published the allegations, also reported that personal work had been done for Athletic Director Neale Stoner and some other members of the association. The university immediately ordered an investigation into the allegations.
''This is not a defense, it is a confession,'' Redfern read in a two-page statement.
